Sobre esta webcam

The Ocean Isle Beach Webcam looks out from the Tiki Deck at Jinks Creek Waterfront Grille on Causeway Drive in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Below the deck, Jinks Creek winds away through a wide salt marsh, with houses and boat docks along the left bank and a wooded shore on the far horizon. A second camera, one click away in the player, watches the docks, launch area and boat racks at Ocean Isle Marina and Yacht Club on the Intracoastal Waterway. The marsh view changes with every tide. At lower water, dark patches of mud show along the near bank, while on a calm morning the creek mirrors the clouds almost perfectly. Small boats sometimes run the channels beyond the marsh, and the grass shifts from green in summer to golden brown in autumn.

About Ocean Isle Beach

Ocean Isle Beach is a barrier island town in Brunswick County, on the southernmost stretch of the North Carolina coast. The island runs 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Tubbs Inlet in the west to Shallotte Inlet in the east, with Sunset Beach across Tubbs Inlet and Holden Beach beyond Shallotte Inlet. The town was incorporated in 1959 and counted 867 residents in the 2020 census. Drivers reach the island on Causeway Drive, which climbs over the Intracoastal Waterway on the high-rise Odell Williamson Bridge. That bridge replaced a 1958 swing bridge in 1986 and carries the name of the developer who became the town’s first mayor after incorporation.

Tidal creeks thread through the salt marsh between the island and the mainland, and Jinks Creek is the one the restaurant’s raised deck overlooks. From that height the camera looks across open water in the foreground, grass flats in the middle distance and a line of trees and rooftops on the skyline, with a cluster of waterfront homes and their docks off to the left.

The second view on the Ocean Isle Beach Webcam comes from Ocean Isle Marina and Yacht Club at 2000 Sommersett Road SW, on the mainland shore of the waterway about 3 kilometers (2 miles) west of the restaurant. Its camera takes in floating docks and pilings, center console boats tied up along the piers, the launch area, and tall dry-stack racks on the right of the frame where boats are stored several levels high. A forklift, the kind that lifts boats in and out of the racks, sometimes rolls into view. The marina offers boat storage with valet service, long-term dockage, a ship’s store and rental boats, and launches are booked through the SpeedyDock app. Both streams run on the Carolina Webcam Streaming channel.

Weather and Climate in Ocean Isle Beach

Summers are long, hot and humid. The nearest published climate normals come from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, about 47 kilometers (29 miles) down the coast, where July averages highs of 31°C (87°F) and lows of 22°C (72°F) over 1991 to 2020. July through September are the wettest months, each bringing roughly 170 to 190 millimeters (6.7 to 7.4 inches) of rain in a typical year. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Hurricane Hugo devastated the area in 1989, and in 2020 Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Ocean Isle Beach as a high-end Category 1 storm, damaging waterfront property and the fishing pier.

Winters are mild and short. January highs average 13°C (55°F) at Myrtle Beach, with lows near 1°C (34°F). Spring warms quickly, with April highs around 22°C (72°F), and October still reaches about 24°C (76°F). On camera, late autumn and winter turn the marsh grass a golden tan, as it was in early November, while summer brings green marsh, longer evenings over the creek and usually more boats on the water.

The Museum of Coastal Carolina at 21 East Second Street on the island has saltwater aquariums, a live touch tank, live fish, turtles and snakes, and exhibits that range from a sperm whale display to Civil War artifacts and a mastodon. The same organization runs the Ingram Planetarium at 7625 High Market Street in Sunset Beach, with science and astronomy shows in its Sky Theater, laser light shows and the hands-on Paul Dennis Science Hall.

Jinks Creek Waterfront Grille, at 14 Causeway Drive, serves seafood with views over the creek from its deck, and its oyster stew has won the contest at the town’s Oysterfest three years running, from 2022 to 2024. On the water, Ocean Isle Marina rents out boats from its docks on the Intracoastal Waterway. The beach itself runs the full 8 kilometers (5 miles) of the island, and Sunset Beach, with its fishing pier, is a short drive west.
