关于此网络摄像头
The Red Table Mountain Webcam stands at 11,780 feet (3,591 meters) on the western end of Red Table Mountain, between Eagle and Basalt in central Colorado, and looks southwest over the Roaring Fork Valley to Mount Sopris. Snow-dusted spruces frame the bottom of the picture, the ground falls away into a deep basin of forested ridges, and the flat valley floor shows through at the lower right. The big snowy massif in the middle of the frame is Sopris, with more of the Elk Mountains strung along the skyline to its left. Cloud can sit along the peaks while the valley below stays clear.
About Red Table Mountain
Red Table Mountain is a long, high ridge in the Sawatch Range, inside the White River National Forest south of the town of Eagle. Its summit reaches 12,043 feet (3,671 meters) and rises 2,017 feet (615 meters) above the saddle that links it to higher ground. Eagle County’s camera is not on that summit. It sits farther west along the ridge, at a radio site about 11 kilometers (7 miles) from the top, and it faces away from the Eagle valley toward the Roaring Fork side.
From that western end the mountain falls away to the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork valleys. The Fryingpan River runs about 42 miles (68 kilometers), is held back by Ruedi Reservoir and joins the Roaring Fork below Basalt, where the mouth sits at 6,591 feet (2,009 meters). That puts the valley floor roughly 5,000 feet (1,520 meters) below the camera.
Mount Sopris, the mountain filling the middle of the frame, is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) away. Its twin summits, East and West Sopris, stand half a mile (0.8 kilometers) apart and share the same height of 12,965 feet (3,952 meters). The mountain is named for Richard Sopris, a former mayor of Denver who was part of the first European expedition into the Roaring Fork Valley. It dominates the skyline of Carbondale and the lower Roaring Fork Valley.
Weather and Climate on Red Table Mountain
The camera’s ridge has a hard winter. Weather data for this elevation from 2015 to 2024 averages January highs of about -8°C (18°F) and lows around -18°C (0°F), and average daytime highs stay below freezing from November through March. April only just reaches 0°C (32°F) by day. In early November, when this post was written, the spruces at the bottom of the frame already carried a dusting of snow and Mount Sopris was white above the bare valley floor.
Summer is brief. June to September are the only months when average nights stay close to or above freezing, and July highs average about 17°C (63°F) with lows near 4°C (39°F). Down at Eagle County Regional Airport, at 6,547 feet (1,996 meters), July afternoons average about 28°C (83°F), roughly 11°C (20°F) warmer than at the camera. Fall comes early on the ridge, and by October daytime highs are back down to about 4°C (39°F).
Things to Do Near Red Table Mountain
Basalt, where the Fryingpan meets the Roaring Fork, sits in the valley below the southwest side of the ridge. Upstream along the Fryingpan, Ruedi Reservoir holds back the river below Meredith, and part of the river’s water is carried east across the Continental Divide by the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. Mount Sopris itself can be climbed on the Mount Sopris Trail, which starts near Dinkle Lake and passes between the two Thomas Lakes just before timberline, inside the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness.
On the Eagle side of the mountain, Sylvan Lake State Park sits about 15 miles (24 kilometers) south of Eagle on Brush Creek Road, at around 8,500 feet (2,590 meters), with a campground. Carbondale, the town whose skyline Sopris dominates, lies in the lower Roaring Fork Valley, and the mountain is visible from State Highway 82 through the valley. North of Red Table, the towns of Eagle and Gypsum line the Eagle River, with Eagle County Regional Airport between them.
