Norwegian Pearl Webcam – Open Sea Over a Jewel-Class Bow

Stream hours: Norwegian Cruise Line puts a new image from the ship online about every 5 minutes, and the player loads each one by itself. After dark the picture is mostly black beyond the lit bow.

このウェブカメラについて

The Norwegian Pearl Webcam is a forward ship camera on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Pearl, the third of the line’s four Jewel class ships. It looks along the centerline from high above the bow, over a tan foredeck with a square turquoise tub, a white mast and a life ring, then out across the water ahead. NCL publishes the camera as a still image, with the ship’s name, the date and the time in a small black box at the top left. The view changes with the voyage: wind-streaked open ocean and a sharp horizon on a sea day, then coastlines, harbor entrances and terminals near land. Water spots on the glass can show against a bright sky, and after dark the picture thins out to the lit bow.

About Norwegian Pearl

Norwegian Pearl followed Norwegian Jewel and Norwegian Jade in the Jewel class, with Norwegian Gem still to come. NCL ordered her on December 24, 2004, and construction began at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, on October 3, 2005. She floated out of the yard’s covered building dock on October 15, 2006, and left Southampton on her first passenger voyage on December 2, bound for Miami. The comedian Rosie O’Donnell christened her there on December 16, 2006.

The ship measures 93,530 GT and 294 meters (965 feet), with 15 decks, 2,394 passengers and a crew of 1,099. She is registered at Nassau and flies the flag of the Bahamas. Her career has been divided mainly between Alaska and the Caribbean, and she also serves as a training ship for new or returning crew members.

What Can You See on the Norwegian Pearl Webcam?

The Norwegian Pearl Webcam gives one of the more balanced views in the NCL fleet. The foredeck fills the bottom of the frame in tan and white, with a run of railing on either side and the square tub set just behind the mast. The horizon crosses the picture a little above the middle, which leaves plenty of room for both water and sky. On a windy day the sea shows long white streaks running past the bow, and low cloud can stack up over the horizon in layers. Close to land the frame can take in headlands, breakwaters, cruise terminals and other ships. Water spots on the glass stand out most when the camera faces a bright sky.

The Ship Linked to a European Blackout

Norwegian Pearl has an odd footnote in the history of the European power grid. On her way to the sea from Papenburg she had to pass under a power line across the River Ems. The first attempt, on November 4, 2006, has been claimed as the source of a massive outage that hit Germany first and then spread across Europe that night.

Her later fame is more cheerful. She became a regular home for themed charters, including the Cayamo song cruises from February 2008. The rock band Kiss has used her for its Kiss Kruise since 2012, Paramore hosted a three-day event called Parahoy! in March 2014, and an entire episode of Impractical Jokers was filmed on board.
