Fugen Webcam – See the Weather in Tyrol’s Zillertal

The Fugen Webcam is mounted at the Hotel Kohlerhof in Fugen, Tyrol, and looks up Austria’s Zillertal from beside the valley station of the Spieljochbahn gondola. In the foreground, the road past the station runs between parked cars and chalets, with open meadows and a parking area to the left. Beyond them the flat valley floor stretches away between two long mountainsides that close in toward higher peaks on the horizon. About Fugen

Fugen is the main town of the outer Zillertal, the first stretch of the valley south of the Inn. It lies at 545 meters (1,788 feet) on the broad alluvial fan of the Rischbach stream, covers 6.64 square kilometers (2.56 square miles) and had 4,290 residents on January 1, 2026. About 34 kilometers (21 miles) east of Innsbruck as the crow flies, it is one of the first places visitors reach on the way up the valley.

The Hotel Kohlerhof stands southwest of the town center, at the foot of the Spieljoch and about 50 meters (164 feet) from the Spieljochbahn valley station. The large modern building with vertical slats at the right edge of the picture is that station. Since the 2017/18 winter the lift has been a 10-person gondola, which replaced an older 4-person cabin lift, and it climbs to a mountain station at about 1,860 meters (6,100 feet).

The camera faces roughly south, up the valley. The steep slope rising close on the right climbs toward the Spieljoch, while the gentler, more distant mountainside on the left is the far side of the Zillertal. Farmhouses and a cluster of village roofs sit out on the valley floor, and the ridges narrow toward the inner valley in the direction of Zell am Ziller. The Zillertalbahn railway from Jenbach has three stops in Fugen: Gagering, Fugen-Hart and Kapfing.

Weather and Climate in Fugen

Winters on the valley floor are cold but rarely severe. Averaged over the last ten years, January afternoons reach about 6 C (42 F) and nights fall to around -5 C (23 F), with December and February only slightly milder. Snowfalls can turn the meadows and rooftops in the frame white, while the ridges on both sides usually keep their snow much longer than the fields below. Around the winter solstice Fugen gets only about 8.5 hours of daylight. Spring arrives quickly at this height: April days average about 15 C (59 F), though nights still drop to around 3 C (38 F).

Summer brings the warmest weather and the most rain. July and August average about 25 C (77 F) by day and 14 C (57 F) at night, and May through August are the wettest months of the year, so cloud can hang on the ridges in the camera’s view for days at a time. In late June the days stretch to nearly 16 hours. Autumn cools steadily: September afternoons are around 21 C (70 F), October around 17 C (63 F), and by November nights sit just above freezing at about 1 C (34 F).

Things to Do Near Fugen

In winter the gondola next to the camera is the way up to the Spieljoch ski area, which has about 17 kilometers (10.6 miles) of pistes and 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) of ski routes. A ski shuttle connects it with the Hochfugen-Hochzillertal ski area, and both are covered by the Zillertal Superskipass. The Spieljoch also has a toboggan run, the Rodelbahn Spieljoch, for a day away from the pistes.

In summer the same gondola carries hikers, and the mountain is run as the Erlebnisberg Spieljoch. Back in town, the Erlebnistherme Zillertal is a leisure pool complex with a 133-meter (436-foot) timed slide and a 134-meter (440-foot) tube slide, plus two outdoor slides of 60 and 74 meters (197 and 243 feet). For history, Schloss Fugen and the Catholic parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt, the Assumption, are the town’s main sights.
