ANDENES WEATHER

Andenes Lighthouse, Norway

The Andenes Lighthouse webcam (Andenes fyr in Norwegian) is located in the village of Andenes on the northern tip of Andøya island in Nordland county, Norway, part of the scenic Vesterålen archipelago.

Built in 1859, the lighthouse has served as a crucial navigational aid, guiding ships through the challenging waters of the Norwegian Sea. Originally constructed with a cast iron tower reaching 40 meters (131 feet) in height, it was later replaced in 1978 by a modern concrete tower standing at 40.5 meters (133 feet) above sea level. Emitting a white flash every 30 seconds with a range of approximately 17 nautical miles, the lighthouse’s light characteristics remain vital for maritime safety.

While the lighthouse has been automated, preserving its historical significance, visitors can still enjoy guided tours and breathtaking views of the sea and rugged coastline. Andenes Beach, known for its wide sandy shores and natural beauty, complements the lighthouse experience, offering opportunities for beachcombing, birdwatching, and soaking in the coastal scenery.

Andenes Lighthouse stands as a symbol of Norway’s maritime heritage, blending history, technology, and natural allure into a captivating destination for tourists and maritime enthusiasts alike.
