Cihu Memorial Sculpture Park, Taiwan

The Cihu Memorial Sculpture Park webcam is located in Daxi District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. It stands as a testament to the complex legacy of Chiang Kai-shek, the former President of the Republic of China.

Spread across approximately 7.4 hectares adjacent to Cihu Lake, this cultural site houses over 100 bronze statues of Chiang, which were relocated here following his death in 1975 and the decision to move his remains to his birthplace in Fenghua, Zhejiang Province, China.

Initiated by Madame Chiang Soong Mei-ling, Chiang’s widow, the preservation effort saved these statues from destruction after they were removed from public spaces across Taiwan. Crafted by various artists, the statues depict Chiang in diverse poses, reflecting differing perspectives on his legacy. Today, the park offers visitors a tranquil setting to explore this collection of statues while contemplating Taiwan’s political history.

As a symbol of both controversy and heritage, the park invites reflection on Taiwan’s past and its ongoing journey towards understanding and reconciliation. Hosting occasional events and exhibitions related to Taiwanese history and culture, the Cihu Memorial Sculpture Park serves as a significant destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a fascinating glimpse into Taiwan’s complex political landscape.
