About this webcam

The Henne Strand Webcam looks out from Cafe Stranden, a beach restaurant in the front row of dunes at Henne Strand, straight across the sand to the North Sea on Denmark’s west coast. Benches sit at the foot of the frame on a paved edge, and beyond them the beach runs flat and wide to a line of breakers, with a pair of signposts and a marker pole standing in the sand. Walkers, dog owners and riders on fat-tire bikes pass along the waterline through the day, and the open horizon fills the middle of the picture. The camera faces roughly west and films through the cafe’s windows, which is why a dark band runs across the top of the image. A Henne Strand caption sits in the top left corner, with the date and local time on the right.

About Henne Strand

Henne Strand is a holiday town on the North Sea coast of West Jutland, in Varde Municipality in the Region of Southern Denmark, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Blavands Huk. It is mostly summer houses. Den Store Danske, the Danish national encyclopedia, counts around 1,300 of them in the area, and the town takes in roughly 10,000 guests at the height of the season. The old parish village of Henne Kirkeby lies about 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) inland to the east, linked to the coast by Strandvejen.

The coast here is built of sand. Sea dunes up to 20 meters (66 feet) high line the shore, and behind them many old wandering dunes, now overgrown, run inland toward the lake of Filso. The stream Henne Mollea drains that lake and runs out south of the town. Nearby Blabjerg is a dune that rises to 64 meters (210 feet) above sea level, and the heath at Lyngbo Hede covers 236 hectares (583 acres).

The camera belongs to Kobmand Hansens Feriehusudlejning, a holiday home agency on Strandvejen in Henne Strand, which runs it together with Cafe Stranden. The operator points out that salt and North Sea wind can smear the windows the camera looks through, so after a blustery spell the picture can look softer until the glass is cleaned.

Weather and Climate in Henne Strand

Henne Strand has a mild, wet maritime climate, with the North Sea keeping winters soft and summers cool. Averages from Open-Meteo’s reanalysis data for 2016 to 2025 put January and February highs near 5 C (41 F) and lows around 2 C (35 F). Spring warms slowly, with April highs of about 11 C (52 F) and May around 15 C (59 F). July and August are the warmest months, with highs of 19 to 20 C (66 to 68 F) and nights near 14 C (57 F), and September still reaches about 18 C (64 F).

Autumn is the wet season. Rainfall runs past 100 millimeters (3.9 inches) a month from July to October and peaks at about 120 millimeters (4.7 inches) in October, when highs drop to around 13 C (56 F). At 55.7 degrees north the day stretches to roughly 17.5 hours at midsummer and shrinks to about 7 hours at midwinter, so the camera gets long, light summer evenings and short winter days. Even on a grey afternoon in early October, the beach in front of the cafe had a steady trickle of walkers and cyclists heading along the surf line.

Things to Do Near Henne Strand

Filso, whose center lies about 5 kilometers (3 miles) southeast of the beach, is one of the largest nature restoration projects in Denmark. The lake was drained for farmland between 1852 and 1951, and the Aage V. Jensen Nature Foundation brought it back as a lake of about 915 hectares (2,261 acres), declaring the work complete on October 7, 2012. Nearly 20 islets built from the material of the old dikes give waterbirds places to breed, and with Filso Heath and Fidde Lake the protected area covers 2,328 hectares (5,753 acres).

On the beach itself there is a volleyball court and a lifeguard service in the bathing season, and Cafe Stranden serves lunch and dinner built on local, seasonal ingredients. Inland, Henne Kirkeby Kro in the parish village is known for gourmet dining. For a day along the coast, Vejers Strand is about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) to the south, and Blavands Huk is 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of town.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Henne Strand located?

Henne Strand is on the North Sea coast of West Jutland, Denmark, in Varde Municipality in the Region of Southern Denmark. It lies about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Blavands Huk and about 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) west of the parish village of Henne Kirkeby.

What can you see on the Henne Strand Webcam?

The camera faces roughly west from Cafe Stranden over a wide, flat sand beach to the North Sea. Benches line the bottom of the frame, signposts stand in the sand, and walkers and cyclists pass along the surf line under an open horizon. The town, its holiday homes and the dunes sit behind or beside the camera, so none of them are in view.

Where is the Henne Strand Webcam mounted?

Inside Cafe Stranden, the beach restaurant in the front row of dunes, behind its sea-facing windows. Kobmand Hansens Feriehusudlejning, a holiday home agency in Henne Strand, runs the camera together with the cafe. Salt and wind off the North Sea can haze the glass, which shows as a softer picture after stormy weather.

Does the Henne Strand Webcam show Vejers Strand?

No. Vejers Strand is a separate beach town about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) south along the coast, far outside this camera’s view. It has its own camera, the Vejers Strand Webcam listed above.

What is the weather like in Henne Strand?

Mild and changeable, shaped by the North Sea. Winter highs sit around 5 C (41 F) and summer highs around 19 to 20 C (66 to 68 F), with October the wettest month at about 120 millimeters (4.7 inches) of rain. The camera is a quick way to check the sky and the surf before heading down to the beach.

Is there a cafe on Henne Strand beach?

Yes. Cafe Stranden stands in the front row of dunes looking out over the sea, and it is the building this webcam films from. It serves lunch and dinner from local, seasonal produce. For a fine-dining evening, Henne Kirkeby Kro is about 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) inland.

Does the camera work at night?

The stream runs around the clock, but the beach in front of it is not lit, so after dark the picture turns almost black apart from the date and time in the top right corner. The view comes back by itself at first light.
