Venice Beach Webcam – See the LA Boardwalk Right Now

The Venice Beach Webcam carries two live views of Ocean Front Walk, the boardwalk that runs along the sand in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Venice. Both cameras sit above the shops on the inland side of the walk. The main view looks southwest past a row of souvenir stalls to a wide lawn, a basketball court and a stand of tall palms, with the Pacific on the horizon. The second tab turns northwest, across a paved plaza and more grass to the beach, and on a clear day the Santa Monica Mountains line up across the bay. People walk dogs along the path, shoot hoops on the court and cut across the lawn to the sand. A clock in the corner of each stream shows local Pacific time.

About Venice Beach

Developer Abbot Kinney founded Venice in 1905 as a beach resort he called Venice of America, and the boardwalk opened the same year to his design. Residents voted to consolidate with Los Angeles in November 1925, and Venice became part of the city in 1926. About 30,500 people live in the neighborhood today, according to 2023 figures. The boardwalk runs for 3.2 kilometers (2 miles), meeting the Santa Monica boardwalk at its north end and finishing at Marina del Rey in the south.

It is one of the busiest public spaces in California. Estimates put the daily crowd at 28,000 to 30,000 visitors and the yearly total at around 10 million, which makes the boardwalk the second-largest tourist attraction in Southern California after Disneyland. Along its length sit Muscle Beach Venice, the Venice Beach Skatepark, the Venice Art Walls, volleyball courts and a stretch of the beach bike path.

Muscle Beach Venice, the open-air weight pen known as the home of bodybuilding, has stood on the boardwalk since 1963. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbu all trained there, and a Hall of Fame of bronze plaques now surrounds the pen. Neither camera on this page points at it.

Weather and Climate in Venice Beach

Venice has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. In January, afternoons average 18 C (65 F) and nights 9 C (49 F). Spring warms slowly, and April highs reach about 19 C (67 F) with lows near 12 C (53 F). August is the warmest month, at 24 C (75 F) by day and 17 C (63 F) at night, and September runs almost as warm. Because of seasonal lag, October, at 22 C (72 F), is warmer than April. About 353 millimeters (13.9 inches) of rain falls in a typical year, nearly all of it between November and March, and February is the wettest month at 88 millimeters (3.47 inches). July sees almost none.

The coast’s best-known weather pattern shows up clearly on these cameras. In May and June, and sometimes in July and August, a marine layer of morning fog rolls in off the ocean. Angelenos call it May Gray and June Gloom. The fog usually burns off by noon, but it can hang around all day, and when it does the horizon in the main view turns into a gray wall and the mountains drop out of the north tab. Heat is rare this close to the water, though the record high of 43 C (110 F) was set on September 27, 2010.

Things to Do Near Venice Beach

Muscle Beach Venice, the skatepark and the Venice Art Walls are all on the boardwalk, within an easy walk of each other. A few blocks inland, the Venice Canals are what remains of the several miles of waterways Kinney dug to drain the marshes for his residential district. Windward Avenue still has arcades over parts of both sidewalks, and their columns, designed by artist Felix Peano, carry faces modeled on Kinney and a woman named Nettie Bouck.

Abbot Kinney Boulevard, renamed for the founder in the late 1980s, is the neighborhood’s main shopping street, lined with stores, restaurants, bars and art galleries. Following the beach path north leads to the Santa Monica Pier, about 3 kilometers (2 miles) up the shore, while heading south brings you to Marina del Rey, where the boardwalk ends.
