Haneda Airport Webcam – Tokyo’s Bayside Gateway

The Haneda Airport Webcam looks south from high on Terminal 1 at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, across the stands where Japan Airlines parks its jets, the taxiways beyond them and a runway edged with grass. Past the runway lies the mouth of the Tama River, and on its far bank the tanks, warehouses and chimneys of Kawasaki’s industrial waterfront. Tails carrying JAL’s red crane fill the left of the frame, tugs and trucks cross the apron, and aircraft can appear low over the water. A second tab switches to Terminal 2, where All Nippon Airways 787s sit nose-in at the jet bridges. Both cameras are run by the TBS News Dig channel and stream around the clock, so after dark the picture turns to floodlit stands and rows of blue taxiway lights.

About Haneda Airport

Haneda, officially Tokyo International Airport, opened on August 15, 1931 and sits in Ota City, about 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) south of Tokyo Station. The airfield lies just 6 meters (20 feet) above sea level on the edge of Tokyo Bay and covers 1,522 hectares (3,761 acres). In 2024 it handled 85,906,170 passengers, 9.1 percent more than the year before, which keeps it among the busiest airports in the world.

Four runways are laid out in two parallel pairs. Runway 16R/34L is 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) long and 16L/34R is 3,360 meters (11,024 feet), while 04/22 and 05/23 each measure 2,500 meters (8,202 feet). Runway 05/23 was built on reclaimed land and completed in 2010, the same year Terminal 3 opened for international flights on October 21.

Terminal 1 opened in 1993 and serves Japan Airlines, Skymark Airlines and StarFlyer, which is why almost every tail at the stands in the main view carries the JAL crane, while other carriers taxi through on their way to and from the runways. Terminal 2, on the second tab, opened on December 1, 2004 and is the base of All Nippon Airways, Air Do and Solaseed Air, so its stands are a row of blue tails.

Winters at Haneda are cool and mostly dry. January highs average about 9 C (48 F) and nights drop to about 1 C (34 F), with roughly 60 millimeters (2.4 inches) of rain a month from December to February, so clear, sharp days over the Kawasaki shoreline are common. Spring warms quickly, from a mean of 10 C (50 F) in March to highs near 22 C (72 F) by May, and rain picks up to about 140 millimeters (5.5 inches) a month.

Things to Do Near Haneda Airport

Every terminal has a public observation deck. Terminal 1 has South and North decks on the 6th floor beside its convention hall, plus a rooftop deck, all open from 6:30 am to 10 pm. Guides to the Terminal 1 deck point out the factory lights of Kawasaki across the water at night, and on clear evenings Mount Fuji can line up behind Terminal 3. Terminal 2 adds its own 5th floor deck and FLIGHT DECK TOKYO, and the 5th floor deck at Terminal 3 never closes.

Haneda’s older history sits just off the airfield. Anamori Inari Shrine was founded in 1804 on land that is now the western part of the airport. After the US military requisitioned the area in 1945, the shrine was dismantled in 1946 and rebuilt inland in Ota City, but its large vermilion torii, donated in 1929, was left standing at the edge of the airbase for decades. When the airport expanded in the 1990s the gate was moved rather than demolished, and since 1999 it has stood as the Haneda Peace Torii at Tenkubashi, on the bank of the Tama River.
