Live webcam from Mount Merapi, located on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces in Indonesia. It is known as the “Mountain of Fire” in Javanese, and it is one of the most active and dangerous volcanoes on the planet.
At 2,930 meters (9613 feet) in elevation, Merapi has a history of violent eruptions that have released pyroclastic flows, lava flows, and volcanic ash. The locals’ cultural significance for it is demonstrated by rituals performed to please the spirits that live inside the volcano. With tens of thousands of people forced to evacuate and numerous fatalities, the 2010 eruption was especially destructive.
Mount Merapi is constantly under observation by Indonesian authorities, acting as a reminder of the delicate balance between the breathtaking natural beauty of the area and any potential risks it may pose to neighboring communities.
