Bâlea Lake, Romania

Bâlea Lake is one of those places you don’t just stumble upon – it takes a bit of a journey to get here, but that’s part of the experience. Sitting high up in Romania’s Făgăraș Mountains, the lake sits in a rocky alpine bowl just off the winding Transfăgărășan Road. Surrounded by steep, rocky peaks, the lake is at an altitude of over 2,000 meters (6,562 feet), making it one of the highest accessible natural lakes in the country. The drive alone is worth it. From above, you can see how the peaks close in around the lake, with a mountain lodge right along the edge.

This area is popular among travelers for its dramatic views, hiking trails, and the winding road that leads up to the lake. The Transfăgărășan is more than just a road, it’s a destination that brings in travelers from far and wide. Bâlea Lake is one of those spots where people tend to pause, whether they’re driving the route, cycling through, or setting off on a hike into the Carpathians.

The webcam view shows a peaceful mountain basin, with a wide perspective of the lake, the lodge, and the terrain that surrounds them. Whether you’re interested in mountain landscapes, Romanian geography, or just a unique high-altitude setting, the Bâlea Lake webcam gives a good look at this remote part of the Southern Carpathians.
