About Norwegian Breakaway
Norwegian Breakaway is the lead vessel of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway Class. The ship was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line in April 2013. Its sister ship, Norwegian Getaway, followed in 2014.
Norwegian Cruise Line currently lists the ship at 145,655 GT, with a length of 326 m (1,070 ft), a maximum beam of 40 m (131 ft), and capacity for 3,903 guests based on double occupancy. The cruise line lists a crew of 1,657 and notes that the vessel was refurbished in 2025.
One of the ship’s defining design features is The Waterfront, an outdoor promenade approximately 400 m (1,312 ft) long. Norwegian Breakaway also includes an Aqua Park and sports complex. Meyer Werft built the ship as the first of two Breakaway Class vessels, a design that introduced several new concepts to Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet when it entered service.

What Can You See on the Norwegian Breakaway Webcam?
The Norwegian Breakaway Webcam changes considerably as the vessel moves between open water and coastal areas. At sea, the view can consist largely of the ocean and horizon, sometimes with other ships visible in the distance. As land approaches, coastlines, islands, harbor entrances, breakwaters, and waterfront buildings may appear.
Port calls can produce some of the most detailed scenes on the cruise ship webcam. Terminals, docks, tugboats, ferries, cruise ships, and city waterfronts may all come into view during arrivals and departures. Because the camera travels with the ship, the background naturally changes throughout its operations rather than showing one fixed location.
Norwegian Breakaway and the Breakaway Class
Norwegian Breakaway was the first ship in a two-vessel class that also includes Norwegian Getaway. Meyer Werft constructed the vessel from 73 large steel blocks and delivered it in spring 2013. The shipyard lists 18 decks and a moulded breadth of 39.7 m (130 ft) in its technical specifications.
The ship’s hull artwork was created by American artist Peter Max and became one of its most recognizable exterior features. Its design also placed a greater emphasis on outdoor areas connected with the sea, particularly The Waterfront promenade. These features helped distinguish the Breakaway Class from earlier Norwegian Cruise Line vessels.
