Norwegian Spirit Webcam – The Former SuperStar Leo at Sea

Stream hours: Norwegian Cruise Line puts a new image from the ship online about every 5 minutes, and the player loads each one by itself. After dark the picture is mostly black beyond the lit bow.

About this webcam
The Norwegian Spirit Webcam is a forward ship camera on Norwegian Spirit, a Norwegian Cruise Line ship that began life in Asia in 1998 as SuperStar Leo. It looks along the centerline from high on the ship, with the point of the bow and its mast at the bottom center of the frame and the sea filling everything above. NCL publishes the camera as a still image, with the ship’s name, the date and the time in tiny print at the top left. The view changes with the voyage: open water and horizon at sea, then coastlines, harbors, terminals and other ships near land. After dark the frame is close to black, with only the outline of the bow and the mast showing through the grain.
About Norwegian Spirit
Norwegian Spirit was built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg in Germany as the first of Star Cruises’ two Leo class ships. She was launched on July 11, 1998, and delivered on September 25 that year, a week ahead of schedule. Under her first name she sailed from Singapore to Malaysia and Thailand, then from Hong Kong from September 1999, with a spell in Australia in 2003 during the SARS outbreak.
She measures 75,904 GT and 268 meters (879 feet), with 14 decks, 2,018 passengers and a crew of 912. Her only sister is Star Navigator, formerly SuperStar Virgo. Since 2004 she has been registered at Nassau and flown the flag of the Bahamas. Her NCL career has ranged widely, from the Caribbean to the South Pacific and Hawaii.

What Can You See on the Norwegian Spirit Webcam?
The Norwegian Spirit Webcam frame gives the ship only a small corner. The rounded bow rail curves across the bottom left, the white mast stands up from the foredeck, and the rest of the wide image is open to the water and the sky, which leaves room for cloud banks, squall lines and the color of the sea. Near land, coastlines and harbor approaches can spread across the width of the picture, with terminals and other ships close by. At night the view is very dark, and a faint band of light can cross the upper part of the image. The ship’s name is printed very small, so it is easy to miss.
Pulled Into NCL at Short Notice
Norwegian Spirit reached NCL by accident. In January 2004 a storm hit the Lloyd Werft shipyard and sank Pride of America at her berth before her debut. To cover the Hawaii cruises already on sale, NCL rushed Norwegian Sky into that service as Pride of Aloha. SuperStar Leo was then pulled from the Star Cruises schedule to replace her, her planned voyages were cancelled, and after only two weeks of refit she emerged as Norwegian Spirit.
Her biggest change came in January 2020, in a 43-day dry dock at Marseille costing more than 100 million US dollars, which brought six new restaurants, seven new bars and lounges, modernized cabins and new hull art. The pandemic then cancelled her planned Asia and Greek Isles seasons, and she did not sail with passengers again until May 2022. In 2024 she also worked a summer charter from Taiwan.
