The RRS Sir David Attenborough Webcam shows the view from the British Antarctic Survey’s polar research vessel. Rather than a conventional cruise ship, RRS Sir David Attenborough is a Royal Research Ship built for scientific work and logistical operations in the polar regions.

RRS Sir David Attenborough is operated by the British Antarctic Survey and was commissioned by the Natural Environment Research Council. The vessel was built by Cammell Laird in Birkenhead, England. Its hull was launched in July 2018, the ship was formally named in September 2019, and the British Antarctic Survey took delivery in November 2020. Its maiden voyage to Antarctica began in November 2021.
The ship measures about 129 m (423 ft) long with a beam of 24 m (79 ft). It has a gross tonnage of 15,609 GT and can accommodate up to 90 scientists, engineers, and crew. Its icebreaking capability allows it to make progress through ice up to 1 m (3.3 ft) thick at 3 knots (5.6 km/h / 3.5 mph).
Scientific facilities include more than 750 square meters (8,073 square feet) of laboratory space and a 4 m by 4 m (13 ft by 13 ft) moon pool through which instruments can be deployed. The vessel also carries equipment for oceanographic, biological, geological, geophysical, and atmospheric research. A helideck, helicopter hangar, cranes, small boats, and cargo facilities support research and station logistics.
