The island, formerly known as Hog Island, is part of the Isles of Shoals – an archipelago in the Gulf of Maine known for its historical significance and natural beauty. With a rich history dating back to the 17th century, this island has has served various purposes, including fishing, farming, and tourism. It features the famous garden of poet Celia Thaxter, a hub for intellectuals and artists in the late 19th century, now preserved as a historical site.
