The Table Rock Lake Webcam looks out from Chateau Mountain in Branson, Missouri, across the Branson end of this big Ozarks reservoir. Blue water wraps around a wooded island, a narrow spit and a forested point below the camera, while a long line of tree-covered ridges closes off the far shore. In the lower left, the dark rooftops of hillside homes step down beside a winding road. Boats show up on the open water from time to time, and the hardwoods on the slopes move from summer green to fall color and then to bare winter gray. An on-screen panel gives Branson’s current temperature, wind and chance of rain, so the stream also works as a quick check before heading out on the water.
Table Rock Lake is a reservoir on the White River, designed, built and run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which constructed Table Rock Dam between 1954 and 1958. The dam stands 77 meters (252 feet) above the streambed and runs 1,958 meters (6,423 feet) from end to end. At normal pool the lake sits 279 meters (915 feet) above sea level, covers about 174 square kilometers (43,100 acres) and has roughly 1,199 kilometers (745 miles) of shoreline, with a maximum depth of 67 meters (220 feet). It winds through the valleys and hollows of the Ozarks from near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, to Branson, taking in parts of Stone, Taney and Barry counties on the Missouri side, and draws more than 10 million visitors a year.
The camera belongs to Branson Lake Lodge, which rents out two homes on Chateau Mountain: Driftwood Lodge, with 10 bedrooms, and Firefly Cottage, a four-bedroom house with an outdoor pool. The lodge lists Moonshine Beach, a public boat ramp and the Chateau on the Lake resort as two minutes away, and the State Park Marina as five. That puts the camera at the Branson end of the lake, a short drive north of Table Rock Dam. Below the dam the White River carries on as Lake Taneycomo, where the cold water released from Table Rock supports a trout fishery.
Most of the frame is open lake broken up by islands and points, with a pale strip of bank where the trees meet the water and a power line tower near one of the points. The current YouTube broadcast has been running since October 2020, and the operator describes it as a 24/7 live view of Table Rock Lake. A clock and a scrolling message about the lodges run along the bottom of the picture.
Branson has a humid subtropical climate with a continental edge. January averages a high of 43 F (6 C) and a low of 27 F (-3 C), and the town gets about 21 centimeters (8.4 inches) of snow in a typical year, so a white morning on the ridges is possible but not common. With the leaves down in winter, the hills on camera turn gray and brown. April brings highs around 68 F (20 C) and lows near 47 F (8 C) as the forest greens up again.
Summer is hot and humid. July averages 88 F (31 C) by day and 69 F (20 C) at night, and that is the busiest stretch for boating and swimming on the lake. Rain is spread through the year, about 1,228 millimeters (48.3 inches) in total, and warm afternoons can bring thunderstorms across the water. October is mild, with highs near 70 F (21 C) and lows around 49 F (9 C), and it is the month when the oak and hickory woods can turn red, orange and gold on the far shore. For the reading right now, the weather panel in the top left of the stream shows Branson’s latest conditions.
Moonshine Beach, just south of the Chateau on the Lake entrance, is a public access area with a sand swimming beach and a boat launch ramp. Farther along State Highway 165, the Dewey Short Visitor Center sits at the south end of the dam, and the paved Table Rock Lakeshore Trail runs 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) from there through hickory and oak woods to the State Park Marina in Table Rock State Park. The marina rents boats, canoes, WaveRunners and wakeboards, and runs catamaran cruises on the lake.
The same trail passes White River Landing, home of the Showboat Branson Belle, a Mississippi-style showboat that serves dinner with live music. Below the dam, Lake Taneycomo is the place for trout fishing. Back in town, 76 Country Boulevard is Branson’s theater strip, Branson Landing is a waterfront shopping and dining complex, and the Titanic Museum and the Silver Dollar City theme park round out the area’s best-known attractions.
