About this webcam

The Ski Sawmill Webcam looks up the slopes of Ski Sawmill, a small family ski area in the hills of north central Pennsylvania. The main camera sits at the base area and faces the bottom station of a chairlift, its orange safety fencing, and a line of lift towers climbing the open hill to the forest at the top. A second camera, on the Nancy’s Run tab, looks up the full length of that intermediate trail from beside a row of picnic tables. In winter the picture is about snow cover, grooming and how busy the lifts are. Out of season the hill turns to mown grass, a utility vehicle sometimes sits parked on the slope, and by mid October the trees along the top of the trails turn red, orange and yellow.

About Ski Sawmill

Ski Sawmill opened in 1969 under the name Oregon Hill, and the road to the base is still Oregon Hill Road. The founding year is printed on the resort’s saw blade logo. Its mailing address is Morris, but the slopes themselves lie in Pine Township, Lycoming County, about 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles) south of the village of Morris in Tioga County. The summit stands at 675 meters (2,215 feet) and the base at 518 meters (1,700 feet), which gives a vertical drop of 157 meters (515 feet).

The hill carries 13 trails on about 6 hectares (15 acres), with snowmaking across all of them. Four lifts run from the base at the north end up to the summit: the Paul Bunyan Double chairlift, a triple chairlift, and the Lumberjack and White Birch T-bars. The trail names stick to the lumber theme, with Ripsaw, Chainsaw, Upper and Lower Buzzsaw, JigSaw, Sawdust Trail and Bark Peeler’s Trail. Ripsaw, Double Bucker and the gladed Upper and Lower Pete’s Run are rated advanced. Nancy’s Run, the trail on the second camera, is an intermediate that drops from the summit straight down to the base.

Beside the ski trails, the Tall Tale Tubing Park has four lanes on a 21 meter (70 foot) drop, with its own tow back up. Night skiing is offered, the resort runs a Snow School for lessons, and lodging is available on site. The operator describes the main Ski Sawmill Webcam view as the resort’s hub, where skiers and snowboarders gear up and the lift lines form.

Weather and Climate at Ski Sawmill

Winters on the hill are cold. Averages for 2016 to 2025 put January highs at about 0 C (32 F) and lows near -8 C (18 F). Average lows stay below freezing from December through March, and that run of cold nights is what the snowmaking needs. In a good stretch the Ski Sawmill Webcam shows a white hill under the lift towers and fresh grooming lines down Nancy’s Run. With winter highs sitting right around freezing, mild spells come often enough that the snow can also look thin or patchy for a few days.

Spring warms quickly. April averages about 13 C (56 F) by day and May about 19 C (66 F), and the trails go back to grass. July is the warmest month, at about 27 C (81 F) in the afternoon and 16 C (61 F) overnight. Autumn is the most colorful time on both cameras. October averages about 16 C (60 F) by day and 6 C (43 F) at night, and the forest around the trails changes color through the month.

Things to Do Near Ski Sawmill

The biggest draw nearby is Pine Creek Gorge, known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. It runs for 76 kilometers (47 miles) and reaches 440 meters (1,450 feet) deep at Waterville, and it was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1968. At Leonard Harrison and Colton Point state parks the gorge is more than 240 meters (800 feet) deep. Leonard Harrison is about 24 kilometers (15 miles) northwest of the ski area in a straight line. Pine Creek runs through the gorge past Blackwell, a hamlet about 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles) west of the slopes.

The Pine Creek Rail Trail follows the creek for 103 kilometers (64 miles), from Wellsboro Junction in Tioga County to Jersey Shore in Lycoming County, and the village of Morris is roughly 25 minutes by car from both the trail and the gorge. Closer in, the Tioga State Forest covers much of western and central Morris Township, and Babb Creek, a tributary of Pine Creek, flows through Morris itself. Little Pine State Park lies about 17 kilometers (10 miles) south of the slopes.
