The Mansfield PA Webcam looks roughly west across Mansfield, a small college borough in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. A red-brick church with a tall white steeple fills the foreground, US 6 curves past it on the left, and behind it the rooftops of the town give way to open fields and a ring of wooded hills. WENY News, the TV station based in Horseheads, New York, that covers the Twin Tiers, runs it as one of its Sky Cams. In mid-October the slopes turn red, orange and gold, and the camera catches the color from the edge of town to the ridgeline. In winter it is a quick way to see whether snow is lying on the hills or the streets before a drive through the Tioga River valley.
Mansfield is a borough of 2,839 people (2020 census) in east-central Tioga County, set in the Tioga River valley at an elevation of about 360 meters (1,181 feet). It covers just 4.9 square kilometers (1.9 square miles) and was incorporated in 1857. Two highways meet in the middle of town: US 6 and Business US 15, which follows Main Street. Elmira, New York, is about 58 kilometers (36 miles) to the northeast.
The church in the foreground is Mansfield United Methodist Church, which has stood at the corner of Wellsboro and Academy streets since 1871. Its old high steeple was taken down in 1927, and a new steeple and cross were later raised on the brick bell tower, which is the white spire on camera today. The big flat-roofed brick block beside it is the church school building the congregation added in 1929. US 6 bends past the church at this corner and runs west along East Wellsboro Street to Main Street, and the flat roofs of the downtown blocks show behind the steeple.
The town’s best-known claim is about sport. On September 28, 1892, Mansfield Normal and Wyoming Seminary played the first football game under electric lights at Smythe Park, and it ended 0-0. The school behind that team began as the Mansfield Classical Seminary, became a state normal school in 1862 and grew into Mansfield University, now the Mansfield campus of Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, which begins just east of the church. The Mansfield Armory was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Mansfield has cold, snowy winters. In January, average highs sit around 1 C (34 F) and nights drop to between minus 9 and minus 7 C (16 and 20 F), so the hills on camera can turn white and the streets below can carry snow or slush. Elmira, the nearest long-running weather station, records about 106 centimeters (42 inches) of snow in an average winter. Spring warms quickly once March is out: April highs reach about 14 C (57 F) and May about 20 C (68 F).
Summers are warm, with July highs near 28 C (82 to 84 F) and nights of 14 to 17 C (58 to 63 F). Rain and snow are spread across the year, adding up to roughly 970 to 1,010 millimeters (38 to 40 inches), and July usually brings the most, about 100 millimeters (4 inches). Autumn is when the view is at its best. October highs average about 16 C (61 F) with nights near 7 C (45 F), and when the camera was checked in mid-October 2026, the slopes behind the town were red, orange and gold under a part-blue sky.
In town, Smythe Park is the place to stand where the 1892 night game was played, and Main Street, a short walk west of the church on camera, is where US 6 meets Business US 15 in the center of the borough. Heading west on US 6 toward Wellsboro, Hills Creek State Park sits just north of the highway, midway between the two towns, and makes an easy half-day trip.
Pine Creek Gorge is about a 30-minute drive beyond Hills Creek State Park. To the north, near the village of Tioga, the US Army Corps of Engineers runs Tioga-Hammond Lakes, twin reservoirs with campgrounds and day-use areas. Tioga Lake covers about 202 hectares (498 acres) and Hammond Lake about 259 hectares (640 acres), and both are open to fishing and to boating with no horsepower limit.
