About this webcam

The Waco Webcam looks along State Highway 6 at Legend Lake Parkway on the south side of Waco, Texas, and it is one of the construction cameras the Texas Department of Transportation runs for its My35 Waco South project. This is a working highway camera, not a scenic one. The SH 6 mainlanes run away from the lens beside a frontage road, with a tall concrete retaining wall and an overpass on the right and big-box stores, parking lots and trees along the horizon. Three more cameras from the same network sit in the tabs, all at the interchange where SH 6 meets Interstate 35, showing the flyover ramps, tractor-trailers on I-35 and the work zone. The weather changes the picture by the hour, and the construction changes it month by month.

About Waco and the My35 Waco South Project

Waco sits on the Brazos River roughly halfway between Dallas and Austin, and Interstate 35 carries the traffic between those two cities straight through town. The 2020 census counted 138,486 residents, and the city stands at about 159 meters (522 feet) above sea level. On the south side, SH 6 shares a freeway with Loop 340 that bypasses Waco to the south, crosses I-35 and continues northwest over Lake Waco toward Valley Mills. Legend Lake Parkway is a short street just south of that freeway, under a kilometer (about half a mile) west of the I-35 interchange, with the Central Texas Marketplace shopping center across the highway on the north side.

The TxDOT Waco District runs these cameras for My35 Waco South, a rebuild of about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) of I-35 between South Loop 340 and 12th Street. The interstate is being widened from six lanes to eight, four in each direction, while overpasses and frontage roads are rebuilt, ramps are realigned and sidewalks are added. The project also builds a diverging diamond intersection at I-35 and Valley Mills Drive. James Construction Group holds the contract, work began on February 24, 2025, and TxDOT expects to finish in early 2029 on a job it puts at 250 million dollars. SH 6 itself runs 766.7 kilometers (476.4 miles) from La Marque to the Red River north of Quanah, and in 1997 the Texas Legislature named it the Texas Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway.

On the main camera, the SH 6 lanes curve gently into the distance with the frontage road and its traffic on the left and a broad concrete ramp marked with yellow stripes in the foreground. The retaining wall on the right carries a round emblem and leads to an overpass at the edge of the frame. The SH 6 at I-35 Southwest tab looks across the interstate to the interchange’s flyover ramps, raised on tall concrete columns, with a water tower far off. The I-35 at SH 6 tab looks straight down the interstate, where trucks pass a work zone in which yellow construction machines and crews can be busy between the lanes. The Southeast tab looks from an overhead sign frame across the lanes toward the flyovers.
