The Jackson Hole Webcam looks across Jackson’s Town Square from Yeah Buddy Pizza on Broadway, with one of the square’s four elk antler arches standing at the corner of the park. Traffic signals hang over the Cache Street intersection in front of it, a brown highway sign points left toward Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks, and spruce and aspen trees rise behind the arch. Pickups, delivery trucks and the odd RV roll past all day. About Jackson Hole and Its Town Square

Jackson Hole is the valley, not the town. It runs 89 kilometers (55 miles) north to south and 10 to 21 kilometers (6 to 13 miles) across, walled in by the Teton Range on the west and the Gros Ventre Range on the east, with a floor that averages about 2,100 meters (6,800 feet). Fur trappers called it Jackson’s Hole after David “Davy” Jackson, who trapped beaver here in the late 1820s, and “hole” was their word for a large mountain valley.

The town of Jackson is the valley’s only incorporated community. It sits at 1,901 meters (6,237 feet), counted 10,760 residents in the 2020 census and was incorporated in 1914. Six years later it elected an all-woman town government, mayor and council included.

The square is officially George Washington Memorial Park. The local Rotary Club built the first antler arch on its southwest corner in 1953, and the other three followed between 1966 and 1969. Each arch holds roughly 2,000 antlers collected on the National Elk Refuge. The operator says the main camera faces east and takes in that southwest arch. Town Square 2 is a PTZ camera that swings around the square, and Town Square Northeast looks over a quiet corner to another arch and the porch of Mountain Trails Galleries.

Golf & Tennis faces down a fairway at the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club toward high peaks, Gather points along a downtown street of wood-fronted motels toward the cleared runs of Snow King Mountain, and The Bird looks out from a restaurant deck strung with lights. Two cameras follow the Hoback River, one of them from the deck at Spotted Horse Ranch, about 26 kilometers (16 miles) south of Jackson, where the river runs over a gravel bar toward a bridge.

Weather and Climate in Jackson Hole

Jackson has a high-altitude climate with big swings between day and night. July averages a high of 26 C (79 F) and a low of only 5 C (41 F), so summer mornings start cold even when the afternoon is warm. January averages a high of minus 3 C (26 F) and a low of minus 14 C (6 F). Spring comes slowly, and April still averages 10 C (50 F) by day and minus 3 C (26 F) at night. These are the town’s 1991 to 2020 normals.

About 199 centimeters (78 inches) of snow falls on the town in an average year, out of 448 millimeters (17.6 inches) of total precipitation. Older winter frames from these cameras show snow banked along the square and the arches wrapped in white lights after dark. October averages 13 C (55 F) by day and minus 4 C (25 F) at night, and in early October the trees around the square and along the Hoback turn gold.

Things to Do Near Jackson Hole

The National Elk Refuge borders the town and was created in 1912. It covers about 100 square kilometers (25,000 acres), and an average of 7,500 elk spend the winter there, along with more than 1,000 bison. Horse-drawn sleigh rides take visitors out among the elk in winter, and trumpeter swans gather along Flat Creek, which flows out of the refuge south into town.

Snow King Mountain rises on the southeast edge of town. Lift-served skiing began there in 1939, making it Wyoming’s first ski area, and the summit stands at 2,380 meters (7,808 feet), 479 meters (1,571 feet) above the base. A gondola has run to the top since 2021, and in summer the hill adds the Cowboy Coaster, an alpine slide and the Snow King Observatory and Planetarium, opened in 2024. Farther out, Grand Teton National Park fills the northwest of the valley, and Spotted Horse Ranch offers fly fishing and horseback riding on the Hoback.
