Severe Nepal flash floods struck the mountainous Nepal-Tibet border region on August 26, 2026, following intense rainfall that caused rivers to rise rapidly and flood communities along the Himalayan border. The disaster caused extensive damage to homes, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure, while landslides and damaged transport routes made rescue operations increasingly difficult.

Some of the worst flooding was reported in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, particularly around Syapru Besi and Timure, close to the border with Tibet. At least nine people were reported dead, while hundreds of tourists were reported missing as authorities worked to determine the full scale of the disaster. Floodwaters swept through valleys and damaged important infrastructure, while the steep Himalayan terrain, landslides and poor weather complicated search-and-rescue efforts.
