Planes on the ground and in the air within about 22 km (14 miles) of the airport, updated every 10 seconds. Tap a plane or a flight in the list for its details. Altitudes are above sea level. Positions come from volunteer ADS-B receivers, so some airports show few or no planes on the ground.
About this webcam
The Northeast Kingdom International Airport Webcam looks across the ramp of this state-owned airfield in Coventry, Vermont, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) southwest of Newport. Cracked, sealed asphalt fills the foreground, with a band of paved surface behind it, then grass, an orange windsock on the right, and a line of dark conifers and bare hardwoods below low wooded hills. The upper half of the frame is mostly sky, so this camera is a good way to read the weather moving over the far north of Vermont. Aircraft can park very close to the lens: in late October 2026, the tail and rear engine of a visiting jet filled the left side of the picture.
About Northeast Kingdom International Airport
The airfield sits at an elevation of 283 meters (930 feet) in Orleans County and carries the codes EFK and KEFK. The City of Newport owned it until selling it to the State of Vermont in the 1970s. It was previously Newport State Airport. The new name arrived in 2015, and the FAA recognized it on October 12, 2017. The airport’s own YouTube channel describes it as direct access to Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom and the Eastern Townships of Quebec, which lie across the nearby border.
Two asphalt runways serve the field, each 30 meters (100 feet) wide. Runway 18/36 runs 1,615 meters (5,300 feet) and Runway 5/23 runs 1,219 meters (4,000 feet). The longer one is the result of a federally funded extension, and its ribbon was cut in November 2015. That length makes this the longest of the three airports in the Northeast Kingdom.
Scheduled service has come and gone here. Northeast Airlines flew DC-3s to Newport from June to September in 1955 to 1961 and again in 1965 to 1967, and Air Vermont offered direct flights to Burlington and Berlin, New Hampshire, in the early 1980s. Later plans went bigger, including a 929 square meter (10,000 square foot) terminal and warehouse building with a customs office, but private development stalled after the EB-5 fraud case.
Weather and Climate in the Northeast Kingdom
Winter is long and cold at this latitude. NOAA normals for neighboring Newport put January highs near -5°C (23°F) and lows near -16°C (4°F), and the city averages 250 centimeters (98.6 inches) of snow a year, 55 centimeters (21.5 inches) of it in January alone. In those months snow can cover the grass beyond the ramp. Spring comes slowly. April highs reach about 10°C (51°F), lows still dip to -2°C (29°F), and 11 centimeters (4.5 inches) of snow falls in an average April.
July brings highs of 25°C (78°F), lows of 14°C (57°F) and 115 millimeters (4.54 inches) of precipitation. October cools to highs of 13°C (55°F) and lows of 2°C (36°F). By late October the hardwoods on this horizon are nearly bare, with only a few gold trees left among the conifers. Annual precipitation at Newport averages 1,113 millimeters (43.83 inches).
Things to Do Near Northeast Kingdom International Airport
Newport, a city of 4,455 people at the 2020 Census, sits on Lake Memphremagog, a 48 kilometer (30 mile) expanse of water that crosses into Quebec. Prouty Beach is the obvious first stop, a 15 hectare (36 acre) lakeside park with a coarse gravel shore, tennis courts, a disc golf course and a campground. It also has a public launch for kayaks and paddleboards and parking for the Newport-Beebe Bike Path. Northern Star Cruises has sailed the lake from the Gateway Center Marina, and Bluffside Farm, on the lake within the city, has a climb to a bluff overlook of the water.
Jay Peak Resort is about 35 minutes west of Newport by VT-105 and VT-242, and it averages more than 890 centimeters (350 inches) of snow a year. On the border itself, the Haskell Opera House and its library straddle the line between the United States and Canada. Back in Newport, the Goodrich Memorial Library is a quieter stop for families.
