About this webcam

The Hamilton Harbour Webcam looks out from the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Pomander Road in Paget, across the club’s marina to the City of Hamilton on the far side of the harbour. A tall palm stands just left of center above the club terrace and its white railing, and the docks below are packed with motorboats, with sailboats swinging on their moorings farther out. Across the water, Bermuda’s capital lines the waterfront, with cranes rising at the right-hand end of the skyline. The view shifts through the day as boats head out and come back, showers cross the harbour and the light changes on the water. The camera keeps streaming after dark, when the lights of Hamilton stretch in long reflections toward the club.

About Hamilton Harbour and the Dinghy Club

Hamilton Harbour is the sheltered water between the City of Hamilton on its north side and Paget Parish to the south. Hamilton was incorporated as a town in 1793 and replaced St. George’s as the capital in 1815. It is still a small place: the city counted 854 residents in the 2016 census, and Front Street runs along its harbour edge. City Hall, the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity and Fort Hamilton all stand in the city, with harbourside parks at Albuoy’s Point and Barr’s Park.

The club that hosts the camera dates from 28 July 1882, when the Hamilton Amateur Dingey Association held its first races for Bermuda Fitted Dinghies. Princess Louise, a daughter of Queen Victoria, conferred the Royal title during her visit to Bermuda in 1883, and Queen Elizabeth II confirmed it in 1953. In 1964 the club moved to its present home, a property called Mangroville on Pomander Road. Since 1977 it has co-sponsored the biennial Marion Bermuda Race, a cruising race between Marion, Massachusetts, and the island.

Paget Parish, named after William Paget, 4th Baron Paget, covers about 6.0 square kilometers (2.3 square miles) immediately south of the harbour and had 5,899 residents in 2016. Salt Kettle, a small Paget peninsula, protects the approach to Hamilton Harbour, and Hinson’s Island lies offshore in the same parish.

Weather and Climate in Hamilton, Bermuda

Winters in Hamilton are mild. January averages a high of 20.7 C (69.3 F) and a low of 15.9 C (60.6 F), and April is only a little warmer, at 22.1 C (71.8 F) by day and 17.3 C (63.1 F) at night. The city averages about 1,454 millimeters (57.2 inches) of rain a year, and on the camera a shower can blur the skyline across the water, then clear and leave the harbour bright again.

Summer is hot and humid. July averages 29.6 C (85.3 F) by day and 24.9 C (76.8 F) at night, and August is warmer still, with highs of 30.1 C (86.2 F) and lows of 25.2 C (77.4 F). October stays warm at 26.7 C (80.1 F) and 22.2 C (72.0 F). The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, and when a storm is near, the camera shows how hard the wind is working the moored boats and the water inside the harbour.

Things to Do Near Hamilton Harbour

Across the water, the City of Hamilton is made for a walk along Front Street, a visit to the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity and City Hall, and the climb to Fort Hamilton on the hill above the city. Victoria Park and Par La Ville Park are green spaces in town, while Albuoy’s Point and Barr’s Park sit right on the harbour, looking back toward the Paget shore where this camera stands.

On the Paget side, the Bermuda Botanical Gardens and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art are both in the parish, as is Camden, the official residence of the Premier of Bermuda. The parish beaches include Elbow Beach, Coral Beach and Grape Bay. The Dinghy Club runs junior and adult sailing courses and powerboating, and its marina takes visiting yachts, so the boats on screen are often the club’s own fleet and cruising sailors passing through.

Where is the Hamilton Harbour Webcam located?

The camera is at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Pomander Road in Paget Parish, on the south shore of Hamilton Harbour in Bermuda. It looks across the water toward the City of Hamilton, the island’s capital.

What can you see on the Hamilton Harbour Webcam?

The club terrace with its white railing and a tall palm fills the foreground, above marina docks full of motorboats. Beyond them, sailboats lie on moorings, and across the harbour the City of Hamilton lines the waterfront, with cranes at the right end of the skyline and a wooded shore with houses on the left.

Does this webcam show Front Street in downtown Hamilton?

Only from a distance. Front Street runs along the city waterfront on the far side of the harbour, so its buildings show up as part of the skyline, but the camera does not look down the street itself.

Can you see the cruise ships at Dockyard or Horseshoe Bay on this webcam?

No. The Royal Naval Dockyard is at the western end of Bermuda and Horseshoe Bay is a beach on the south shore of Southampton Parish, and neither is in this camera’s view. It covers the Dinghy Club marina and the Hamilton waterfront only.

Yes, the stream keeps running after dark. The dock lights at the club and the lit waterfront of Hamilton reflect across the harbour, though individual boats are much easier to pick out in daylight.
