About this webcam

The Up North Cat Condo Webcam watches a homemade, heated shelter for wild and partially feral cats in a back yard outside Frazee, Minnesota. Three cameras share this page. The main view watches the feeding deck and its dishes, with the original two-story condo at the edge of the frame. That condo is a converted dog house with a catwalk, blankets and a heat lamp, where a mother cat and her grown kittens come and go. A second camera takes in the wider back yard beside a creek and a road, and a third covers the feeding station, the wooden planks the cats use to climb, and a second condo. The busiest hours tend to come after dark, when at least four cats have been known to settle in for the night, and a raccoon has turned up on camera during late-night visits to the food.

About the Up North Cat Condo

The condo belongs to the Mohn family, Kevin, Jill and their daughter Ashley, who live in the countryside around Frazee. In the winter of 2024 to 2025 Jill spotted a thin feral cat in the yard with three kittens. The cats would not come indoors, so Kevin and Ashley refurbished an old dog house into a two-story shelter with insulation, lights, a heat lamp, food, water and blankets. There is even art on the walls, including pictures of mice. The first livestream went up on December 25, 2024, and within about ten weeks the videos had passed nearly 3 million views, with regular watchers well beyond Minnesota.

The cats have names that regular viewers know well. The mother is Such-A-Good-Mama, and her kittens are Lila, Lucy and Larry, the tomcat of the family. The owners are plain about money: according to the channel, donations pay only for cat treats, food and other things directly for the cats, while the building materials and the cameras were bought by the family. The current streams have run since April 2026, when the channel spread the yard across several cameras. Camera 1 was zoomed in for a closer look at the first condo, and Camera 4 was set up so the feeding station stays in frame.

Because the shelter sits at a private home, the map on this page marks the town of Frazee rather than the house. Frazee lies in Becker County at an elevation of 422 meters (1,385 feet) and counted 1,335 residents in the 2020 census. It was settled in 1870, platted in 1873 and incorporated in 1891, and it takes its name from Randolph Lafayette Frazee, who owned a sawmill there. U.S. Route 10 runs through town, and the Amtrak station at Detroit Lakes is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) away.

Weather and Climate at the Up North Cat Condo

Winter is the reason the condo exists. At nearby Detroit Lakes, January averages a daytime high of minus 8 C (17 F) and an overnight low of minus 20 C (minus 4 F), and the record low is minus 44 C (minus 48 F). In a normal winter snow covers the yard for months, and the Up North Cat Condo Webcam often shows the cats curled up in the heated upper level or crossing a white yard to the feeding station. On the coldest nights the heat lamp and the blankets are what keep the shelter occupied.

Summer is a different scene. July averages 26 C (79 F) by day and 14 C (58 F) at night, and the record high in the area is 43 C (110 F). In the warm months the creek beside Camera 2 runs open, grass fills in around the planks, and the cats tend to spend more time out in the yard than inside the shelter. Spring and autumn sit between the two and bring the fastest changes on screen, from snowmelt to green ground and back to bare trees.

Things to Do Near Frazee

Frazee calls itself Turkey Town, and the proof stands downtown. Big Tom, billed as the world’s largest turkey statue, is more than 6.1 meters (20 feet) tall and 5.2 meters (17 feet) wide and weighs over 2,270 kilograms (5,000 pounds). The current bird went up in 1998, replacing a 1986 original that needed constant repairs, and a smaller early turkey statue still stands in town. The town celebrates the same heritage with its Turkey Days festival, and the Frazee Events Center hosts trade shows, performances and community gatherings through the year.

Detroit Lakes is the bigger day out. Its mile-long city beach on Detroit Lake fills up in summer and hosts the town’s Independence Day celebrations. The Art Deco Historic Holmes Theatre seats nearly 1,000, and the Becker County Museum sits in an addition to the same building. Each year the WE Fest country music festival draws around 50,000 people. For wildlife that does not need a heated condo, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge lies 29 kilometers (18 miles) northeast of Detroit Lakes, with hiking and birding trails, canoe routes and good odds for wildlife photography.
