About this webcam

The Dragan Dam Webcam looks out over Lake Dragan, a reservoir that winds between steep, forested ridges in the Apuseni Mountains of western Romania. The camera is mounted at Pensiunea Art 1000, a guesthouse in the village of Lunca Visagului, and it works through a slow tour of preset views instead of holding one frame. Most stops follow the lake as it bends away between headlands of spruce and broadleaf wood. Others zoom in on the curved concrete wall of the dam, a rocky gully with a thin stream, and a summit above a hairpin road. When the water level drops, bands of pale rock and soil appear along every shore, and in mid-October 2026 the deciduous trees on the slopes had turned orange and gold.

About Dragan Dam

Dragan Dam, marked as Floroiu Dam on some maps, is an arch dam completed in 1987. It stands 120 meters (394 feet) high from its foundation, and its crest runs for 424 meters (1,391 feet). The wall holds back the Dragan and Sebesel rivers just below the point where they meet. The lake behind it covers about 292 hectares (722 acres) and stores around 112 million cubic meters (roughly 91,000 acre-feet) of water, which is used to generate electricity, to soften floods coming down the valley and for irrigation.

The reservoir lies in Poieni commune in Cluj County, close to the border with Bihor County. The commune is made up of eight villages, Lunca Visagului and Valea Draganului among them, and counted 4,367 residents in the 2021 census. Huedin is the closest town. A road of about 25 kilometers (16 miles) climbs to the dam from the E60 at Bucea, and the lake is roughly 90 to 100 kilometers (56 to 62 miles) by road from Cluj-Napoca.

Pensiunea Art 1000 is the guesthouse named in the stream’s caption, with its own restaurant, an indoor pool and a tennis court. From its slope the Dragan Dam Webcam swings between the dam wall and the upper bends of the lake, so the reservoir reads as a chain of narrow, winding arms rather than one open basin. The widest presets also take in a rounded summit above the water and a stretch of the access road with its guardrails.

Weather and Climate at Dragan Dam

Ten years of modeled weather data for the lake (2015 to 2024) put winter nights firmly below freezing. January averages highs near 1 C (34 F) and lows near -5 C (23 F), and December and February are only a little milder. Average lows stay below zero through March, when daytime highs reach about 7 C (44 F). Spring then warms quickly, with April highs near 12 C (53 F) and May highs near 16 C (61 F).

Summer is mild. July and August highs average 22 to 23 C (72 to 74 F), with nights around 14 to 15 C (58 to 59 F). May and June are the wettest months, at about 130 to 145 millimeters (5.1 to 5.7 inches) of rain each, so early summer is the season most likely to bring rain. Autumn cools steadily, from highs of 18 C (65 F) in September to 14 C (56 F) in October and 8 C (47 F) in November. On 15 October 2026 the Dragan Dam Webcam showed low cloud resting on the far ridges and the woods in full autumn color.

Things to Do Near Dragan Dam

The lake itself draws hikers, bird watchers and campers, and fishing is allowed with the necessary permits. Upstream on the road to the dam, the rock face at Lunca Visagului rises about 200 meters (656 feet) above the road, some 15 kilometers (9 miles) before the dam, and Electron Grup runs a separate camera there. About 7.5 kilometers (4.7 miles) east of the lake as the crow flies, the same company has a camera at Cabana Vladeasa, a mountain hut at 1,400 meters (4,593 feet) in the Vladeasa Mountains.

The Bride’s Veil waterfall (Valul Miresei) near Rachitele, in neighboring Margau commune, drops about 30 meters (98 feet) in two steps at roughly 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) above sea level. A 15-minute walk through the forest leads to it from the parking area, and in winter its spray freezes into ice formations. Within Poieni commune, the village of Bologa holds the remains of Resculum, a Roman fort built around 106 AD, and the ruins of the medieval Sebesvar fortress. Lake Dragan is also close to Apuseni Natural Park, which protects a large part of the range.
