About this webcam

The Kings Island Webcam looks straight along International Street at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, across the long pool of the Royal Fountain to the park’s 314-foot (96-meter) Eiffel Tower replica. Gabled buildings line both sides of the water, rows of patio umbrellas sit along its edges, and coaster lift hills and loops break the skyline behind the tower. Two more cameras from the same operator work from high above the park. One faces Orion, the giga coaster that opened in 2020, and the other looks down on the children’s area at Camp Snoopy and Planet Snoopy. The calendar changes this view more than the clock does. Crowds fill the street through the operating season, and in autumn the fountain picks up Halloween decorations for the park’s Haunt weekends.

About Kings Island

Kings Island opened on April 29, 1972, and covers 364 acres (147 hectares) in Mason, about 39 kilometers (24 miles) northeast of downtown Cincinnati. It was a Cedar Fair park until July 1, 2024, when Cedar Fair and Six Flags completed their merger, and it now belongs to Six Flags. International Street is the avenue on the main camera, and the Royal Fountain fills its center: a 600,000-gallon (2.27 million liter) pool that can throw 10,000 gallons (37,850 liters) of water into the air every minute.

The Eiffel Tower at the far end of the fountain is a roughly one-third scale copy of the Paris original and opened with the park in 1972. It stands 314 feet (96 meters) today, down from 331.5 feet (101 meters) before its antenna came off. Waagner-Biro supplied the structure for the ride maker Intamin.

Beyond the tower, Kings Island is built around roller coasters. The Racer, a twin wooden racing coaster designed by John C. Allen, has run since opening year. The Beast arrived in 1979 and is still the longest wooden roller coaster in the world, and Banshee, added in 2014, is the longest inverted coaster anywhere. Orion, the subject of the second camera, opened in 2020 in the Area 72 section, which was called X-Base until that season. At $30 million it is the largest single investment in park history, with a 300-foot (91-meter) drop, 1,622 meters (5,321 feet) of track and a top speed of 146 km/h (91 mph). On camera, its track sweeps across the back of the park with tree-covered country running to the horizon.

The third camera covers the children’s area, which has carried several names. It opened in 1972 as the Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera, became Nickelodeon Universe in 2006 and Planet Snoopy in 2010, and gained the new Camp Snoopy section for the 2024 season. From above, it reads as a maze of colored roofs, round plazas and small rides, with the red track of a larger coaster curling along the left side of the frame.

Weather and Climate at Kings Island

Kings Island shares the climate of the Cincinnati area, which sits at the southern edge of the humid continental zone and borders the humid subtropical belt. That position gives the region a longer growing season and milder winters than most big Midwestern cities. July is the peak of the park season, with afternoons averaging 30 C (86 F) and nights around 19 C (66 F). Summer also brings frequent severe thunderstorms.

Autumn is when the main view changes most. Halloween Haunt runs on weekends from September through October, and in early October skeleton figures stood at the near end of the fountain, while the trees along the far edge of the park start to turn. WinterFest follows from mid-November through late December. January is the coldest month, averaging 4 C (40 F) by day and minus 5 C (23 F) at night, and winter weather tends to come as a mix of rain, sleet and snow, about 59 centimeters (23 inches) of snow in an average year. Total precipitation runs close to 1,150 millimeters (45 inches) a year.

Things to Do Near Kings Island

Inside the gate, the Eiffel Tower is an attraction in its own right, with an observation deck near the top that looks out over the whole park. Soak City, the 33-acre (13-hectare) water park next to the rides, opened in 1989 as WaterWorks and took its current name in 2012, and park admission includes it. Besides Orion, The Beast and Banshee, the coaster lineup includes Diamondback from 2009, Mystic Timbers from 2017 and Flight of Fear, an indoor launched coaster that opened in 1996. WindSeeker, a 301-foot (92-meter) swing ride from 2011, climbs to nearly the height of the tower.

Outside the park, Great Wolf Lodge Cincinnati/Mason is within a 10-minute drive and has a large indoor water park for days when the weather turns. The Lindner Family Tennis Center sits within the same short drive and hosts the Cincinnati Open every year, drawing top professional players. In nearby Lebanon, the Golden Lamb has served guests since 1803 and is the oldest business in Ohio, open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Downtown Cincinnati is 39 kilometers (24 miles) to the southwest.
