About this webcam

The Marina d’Arechi Webcam looks across the yacht harbor on the southeastern waterfront of Salerno, in the Campania region of southern Italy. A still stretch of water fills the foreground, dotted with red and white marker buoys, and behind it a low white-roofed building and a row of white marquees stand on a quay planted with palm trees. Beyond them, hundreds of moored boats and a dense forest of masts run across the frame to the breakwater, with hills rising at the right edge. On a windless morning the water holds clean reflections of the buildings and palms. The picture changes most with the season: summer brings the large visiting superyachts, while on grey autumn days the sky turns flat and the calm water takes on the same color.

About Marina d’Arechi

Marina d’Arechi is a privately funded yacht harbor, built by the Gallozzi Group for about 120 million euros and designed by Santiago Calatrava. The first 400 berths opened in 2012 and the rest followed in stages, so the harbor now has about 1,000 berths for boats from 10 to 100 meters (33 to 328 feet) long. The Spanish marina operator Ocibar later bought a 25 percent stake.

The harbor was built for big boats. Water depth is 8 meters (26 feet) at the entrance and 3.5 to 7 meters (11 to 23 feet) along the berths, and the breakwater design was tested in a wave tank by HR Wallingford in Britain. In summer 2025 more than 150 superyachts between 30 and 79 meters (98 and 259 feet) called here, about 20 percent more than the season before. Behind the berths sit a shipyard with more than 7,000 square meters (75,000 square feet) of working area, 25,000 square meters (269,000 square feet) of winter storage and a 220 tonne travel lift, plus a fuel dock with 14 pumps and a village of restaurants, bars and padel courts.

The marina lies southeast of the historic center of Salerno, a city of about 125,000 people whose commercial port, one of the most active on the Tyrrhenian Sea, handles around 10 million tonnes of cargo a year. From here the coast runs west to the Amalfi Coast, with the town of Amalfi 18 kilometers (11.2 miles) away in a straight line, and south toward the Cilento.

Weather and Climate in Salerno

Salerno has a Mediterranean climate of mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. January afternoons typically reach about 13°C (56°F), with nights around 7°C (45°F). By April highs have climbed to about 20°C (68°F). July and August are the hottest months, with afternoons near 31°C (88°F) and nights around 21°C (70°F), and July is also the driest, with only about 20 millimeters (0.8 inches) of rain in a typical year.

Rain returns with the autumn. October still averages highs near 24°C (75°F), but November is usually the wettest month, and the city collects around 1,100 millimeters (43 inches) of rain a year, most of it between October and March. On the Marina d’Arechi Webcam, summer means hard light and the busiest weeks for visiting yachts. In winter, clear days can sharpen the hills at the right of the frame, while overcast spells leave the basin a sheet of grey.

Things to Do Near Marina d’Arechi

Salerno’s palm-lined seafront, the Lungomare Trieste, follows the shore through the city center. Inland from it, Salerno Cathedral is an 11th century Romanesque church that keeps the relics of Saint Matthew in its crypt. The Giardino della Minerva is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe, once a teaching garden for students of the Schola Medica Salernitana, among the earliest medical schools on the continent. High on the hill above the city, Arechi Castle stands about 360 meters (1,181 feet) above sea level. Building began in the 6th century under Byzantine rule, and Arechis II, the Lombard duke who moved his seat to Salerno after Charlemagne’s attack of 774, strengthened its walls. Today it holds a museum of coins and medieval ceramics found during restoration, and the defensive walls are free to explore.

For day trips, ferries and hydrofoils leave Salerno’s Molo Manfredi and Molo Concordia for the Amalfi Coast and the islands. Positano is about an hour away by sea and Capri 1.5 to 2 hours, with Capri sailings running mainly from April to October. In the other direction, the ancient Greek city of Paestum lies 29 kilometers (18.2 miles) southeast of the marina in a straight line. Its three temples, the First Temple of Hera from about 550 BCE, the Temple of Athena from about 500 BCE and the Second Temple of Hera from about 450 BCE, are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site listed in 1998, and the National Archaeological Museum beside them displays the painted Tomb of the Diver.
