About this webcam
The Sunburst Ski Hill Webcam looks up Edelweiss, the oldest and largest run at Sunburst in Kewaskum, Wisconsin. A chairlift climbs the middle of the slope toward a lattice tower on the crest, a red roof fills the lower left corner, and red picnic tables and a small pavilion stand on the patio in the foreground. Three more cameras from the same operator sit in the player’s tabs: the terrain park, Werner’s Way and the tubing hill. In early October the runs are green grass framed by woods turning orange and red. The resort’s season typically lasts about 12 weeks, from December through March, and that is when this view turns white and fills with skiers, snowboarders and tubers.
About Sunburst Ski Hill
Sunburst sits on Prospect Drive in the Town of Kewaskum, Washington County, which the resort places about 35 minutes from Milwaukee and 40 minutes southeast of the Fox Valley. It has been open since 1961, and its YouTube channel runs under the name Sunburst Winter Sports Park. The resort counts 11 ski hills, two terrain parks and more than 45 tubing chutes. Wisconsin Trail Guide lists a vertical drop of 65 meters (214 feet) and a longest run of about 790 meters (2,600 feet).
Edelweiss has been skied since that first season, and the resort calls it its oldest, largest and most popular hill, a wide, steady pitch suited to intermediates. Werner’s Way is the primary race run, with two head walls and a steep skier’s left, named after the owner’s father, who skied for the German national team in the 1950s. The Other Way beside it is the steepest run at Sunburst and hosts a motorcycle hill climb every June. Of the terrain parks, Ridge Runner suits beginners with rollers and small jumps, while South Park carries jumps, spines, kickers and box, single and double barrel rails.
The tubing hill, called Das Chutes on the resort’s camera page, is what Sunburst bills as the World’s Largest Tubing Hill. Riders drop 27 meters (90 feet) over a run of about 400 meters (a quarter mile), reach up to 48 km/h (30 mph) and ride one of two magic carpet lifts back up. Out of season that tab shows a broad slope of grass and bare streaks with poles and a row of houses along the skyline. The Werner’s Way tab looks straight up a long pitch beside a chairlift line to a lattice tower on top, and the terrain park tab looks across a pond and its tree-lined bank to the grassy slope and a red-roofed building.
Weather and Climate at Sunburst Ski Hill
From December through February, average highs at the hill run from 28 to 33 F (-2 to 1 C) and nights fall to about 14 to 21 F (-10 to -6 C), cold enough for the resort’s December to March season. Snow replaces the grass on every camera then, and because the lifts run until 9:30 pm on most days, night sessions under the lights can show up on the feeds after dark. March warms to highs near 44 F (7 C), and the season usually ends that month.
Summer is warm and the wettest part of the year. July averages highs of 81 F (27 C) and lows of 63 F (17 C), and August brings about 105 mm (4.1 inches) of rain. From spring to late fall the cameras show grassy slopes with mowing stripes. October highs average about 59 F (15 C) with lows near 45 F (7 C), and the woods along Edelweiss and Werner’s Way turn orange and red early in the month.

Farther north, the Henry S. Reuss Ice Age Visitor Center stands on Highway 67 near Dundee, and the 18 meter (60 foot) Parnell Tower looks out from the highest point in the Northern Unit.
