Valle Nevado Webcam – Andes Ski Slopes, Pool and Gondola

The Valle Nevado Webcam looks out from the terrace of La Fourchette, one of the restaurants at Valle Nevado ski resort, high in the Andes 46 kilometers (29 miles) east of Santiago, Chile. Below the terrace, a snow slope runs down to a dark red wooden cabin with a gabled roof and a small deck, and fenced ski runs climb the hillside behind it toward a second, smaller hut. On a clear day, steep snowfields and rocky ridges fill the top of the frame, and skiers often stop to rest in the snow just below the camera. Three more cameras from the resort sit in the tabs: the outdoor pool, the view named for Hotel Puerta del Sol, and a lift line the resort calls La Gondola. In a storm the whole picture can turn white within minutes, which is worth knowing before you drive up.

About Valle Nevado

Valle Nevado was built by French entrepreneurs. Construction started in 1987 and the resort opened the following year, which is why a restaurant on a Chilean mountain carries a French name. The base sits at about 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) in the foothills of Cerro El Plomo, and the resort covers around 900 hectares (2,224 acres) of skiable terrain with 34 marked runs: 4 beginner, 11 intermediate, 14 advanced and 5 expert.

The lift system runs to 1 cable car, 5 chairlifts, 7 surface lifts and 3 magic carpets. The cable car opened in 2013 as the first mountain cable car in Chile. Valle Nevado is also one of the Tres Valles, the three neighboring resorts above Santiago. It borders El Colorado and connects with part of La Parva, so skiers can cross between them on snow when conditions allow, although each resort sells its own lift ticket.

The Four Valle Nevado Cameras

The main view, which the resort labels La Fourchette Terrace View, is the widest of the four. The cabin sits on the right of the frame, the open slope takes up the left, and a corner of the terrace railing shows at the bottom edge.

The Pool tab looks across an outdoor pool enclosed by glass panels on wooden posts, with resort buildings on both sides. After a heavy fall the snow banks up higher than the railings while the water stays open. The Puerta del Sol tab looks over open slope with a rope fence in the foreground and a lift tower in the middle distance. The Gondola tab is mounted beside the towers of a lift and looks straight up the line, with an orange safety net along the edge of the piste on the left. The resort’s website lists two more cameras, Bajo Zero and Mirador, which are not among the four streams on its YouTube channel.

Weather and Climate in Valle Nevado

At 3,000 meters, winter is properly cold. Modeled averages for 2015 to 2024 put July, the coldest month, at a daytime high of about -1 C (30 F) and a nighttime low near -7 C (19 F), with June and August barely warmer. More than half of the year’s precipitation falls between May and September, and a single storm can turn every camera on this page white.

Spring warms slowly. October highs average about 3 C (38 F) and November about 8 C (46 F), so deep snow can stay on the cameras well after the main winter months. Summer is mild for the altitude: January and February average highs near 14 C (57 F), with nights around 5 C (41 F). Autumn cools quickly, and by May the average high is back down to about 3 C (38 F) with nights well below freezing.

Things to Do Near Valle Nevado

In season, the draw is the skiing itself: 34 runs, the 2013 cable car, and on good days the chance to cross into El Colorado or La Parva, although their lifts need their own ticket. The resort runs four places to stay, Hotel Valle Nevado, Hotel Puerta del Sol, Hotel Tres Puntas and Aconcagua Ski Residences, plus four restaurants: La Fourchette, Monte Bianco, Restaurant Sur and Mirador del Plomo.

The road up from Santiago climbs past Farellones through a long series of switchbacks, and at busy times it can be restricted to one-way traffic, so check before setting off. Outside the ski season, the resort publishes a program of summer activities and keeps a registration form for mountaineers heading into the high country around Cerro El Plomo.
