About this webcam
The Osorno Volcano Webcam looks out from the base area of the Centro Volcan Osorno ski center, about 1,230 meters (4,035 feet) up the southwest flank of the cone-shaped volcano that rises over Llanquihue Lake in southern Chile. A broad slope of dark volcanic sand fills the foreground, scored with snowcat tracks, and a red snowcat often sits parked on the left. Behind it, a long row of white fence panels crosses the hillside, lattice towers stand on the slope above, and a dark ridge streaked with snow rises at the upper left. Cloud moves across this slope all day, so the picture can go from thick fog to blue sky within an hour. In the ski season the same ground lies under snow, which makes the camera a quick check before the drive up from Puerto Varas or Ensenada.
About Osorno Volcano
Osorno Volcano reaches 2,652 meters (8,701 feet). It stands on the southeastern shore of Llanquihue Lake and towers over Todos los Santos Lake to the east. Its conical shape is often compared with Mount Fuji in Japan, and glaciers still cover the upper slopes, although large areas on the northern and western sides have retreated. The last eruption was in 1869, and the first recorded ascent was made in 1848 by Jean Renous. A flank crater known as the Red Crater, or Crater Rojo, sits on the slope about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) east of the ski base.
The Centro Volcan Osorno ski area spreads across the southwest flank, roughly 3.9 kilometers (2.4 miles) from the summit and about 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) below it. Its lifts climb from the base station at 1,230 meters (4,035 feet) to a top elevation of 1,760 meters (5,774 feet), a vertical range of 530 meters (1,739 feet). The center lists three lifts, the Silla Panoramica, Enlace and Glaciar, and the Glaciar line alone runs 1,100 meters (3,609 feet). Named runs include Jean Pierre, Primavera and Seracs. Restaurante Mirador sits at the base station, and Refugio Teski and the Hotel-Spa Nido de Condor offer rooms close by.
Weather and Climate on Osorno Volcano
At the height of the base station, winter is cold and very wet. July is the coldest month, with highs around 2 C (36 F) and lows near -3 C (27 F), and June through August bring the heaviest precipitation of the year, much of it falling as snow at this altitude. That is the ski season, when the sand in front of the camera disappears under snow. Days are short, too: around the June solstice the sun is up for only about 9 hours at this latitude.
Spring comes late on the mountain. October averages highs near 6 C (44 F) with nights just below freezing, and by mid-October 2026 the snow had already melted off the slope in front of the camera, leaving bare volcanic ground. Summer is mild rather than warm, with January and February highs of 12 to 13 C (54 to 56 F), lows around 5 to 6 C (41 to 42 F) and close to 15 hours of daylight around the December solstice. Autumn cools quickly, with April highs near 8 C (46 F), and the wet season builds again from April. Low cloud can wrap the slope in any month, and fog can hide the ridge for hours and then clear in under an hour.
Things to Do Near Osorno Volcano
In winter the ski center runs ski and snowboard lessons, equipment rental, tubing and sledding alongside its marked runs. The Sendero Crater Rojo, a trail starting by the base station, crosses the slope to the Red Crater. Lower down the access road, the Crater La Burbuja viewpoint has its own parking area beside the road.
The volcano’s eastern slope lies inside Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, established in 1926 and covering 2,530 square kilometers (977 square miles). Inside the park, the Petrohue River flows out of Todos los Santos Lake and pours over an andesite lava flow at Petrohue Falls, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Puerto Varas. The villages of Petrohue and Peulla have hotels and lodges, and the Sendero Paso Desolacion runs 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) across the eastern side of the volcano. To the west, Llanquihue Lake is the second largest lake in Chile at about 871 square kilometers (336 square miles), with Puerto Varas, Frutillar, Llanquihue, Puerto Octay and Las Cascadas around its shore.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Osorno Volcano located?
Osorno Volcano is in the Los Lagos Region of southern Chile, between Llanquihue Lake and Todos los Santos Lake. It lies about 45 kilometers (28 miles) northeast of Puerto Varas in a straight line, and the ski center on its southwest flank is about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the town.
What can you see on the Osorno Volcano Webcam?
The camera faces the slope at the ski center base, about 1,230 meters (4,035 feet) up the mountain. Dark volcanic sand with snowcat tracks fills the lower half, a red snowcat is often parked on the left, and a line of white fence panels, lattice towers and a snow-streaked ridge sit higher in the frame. A date and time stamp runs across the top of the picture.
What is the weather like on Osorno Volcano?
Cold, wet and changeable. At the ski base, July highs are around 2 C (36 F) and summer highs only reach about 12 to 13 C (54 to 56 F). June through August is the wettest stretch, and low cloud and fog can roll over the slope at any time of year.
How high is Osorno Volcano?
The summit reaches 2,652 meters (8,701 feet). The ski area covers the range from 1,230 meters (4,035 feet) at the base station to 1,760 meters (5,774 feet) at the top of the lifts, so the glaciated cone still rises nearly 900 meters (2,930 feet) above the highest lift.
When did Osorno Volcano last erupt?
The last eruption was in 1869. The upper slopes are still glaciated, although large parts of the ice on the northern and western sides have retreated.
Is there snow at the Osorno Volcano ski center right now?
The Osorno Volcano Webcam is the quickest way to tell. In the winter ski season the base area is normally white, but snow can vanish early at this height: in mid-October 2026 the ground in front of the camera was already bare volcanic sand, while snow still lay on the ridge higher up.
Can you visit Osorno Volcano in summer?
Yes. The operator promotes the center for summer as well as winter, and the access road climbs to the base area, where the Sendero Crater Rojo heads out to the Red Crater. The Crater La Burbuja viewpoint is on the same road further down.
