About this webcam
The Cerro Bayo Webcam looks out from the gondola station at the 1,500 meter (4,921 foot) level of Cerro Bayo, the ski mountain above Villa La Angostura in Argentina’s Neuquen province. A railed walkway crosses the foreground toward a wooden deck and a small orange hut with a trail sign board, while chairlift towers with red heads climb the snow behind it. A snow-capped ridge fills the left of the frame, and on the right the view opens over lake water far below. Four more cameras sit in the tabs: the Los Lagos chairlift and three beginner areas. Late in the season, bare ground starts to show on the forested knoll beyond the station.
About Cerro Bayo
Cerro Bayo is a compact ski area 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) from Villa La Angostura, on the shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi in northern Patagonia. The resort bills itself as the Argentine ski center closest to a town, about 15 minutes away by road. Its base sits at 1,050 meters (3,445 feet). From there the Jean Pierre gondola runs a line 1,332 meters (4,370 feet) long, from 1,076 meters (3,530 feet) up to a station at 1,520 meters (4,987 feet), and that connection at the 1,500 level is where the Cerro Bayo Webcam is mounted. A second gondola, Cumbre, carries on from the same station to 1,803 meters (5,915 feet) near the top of the mountain.
Eleven lifts serve 24 runs and 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) of trails: the two quad gondolas, six double chairlifts and three magic carpets, with a top capacity of 6,450 riders an hour according to the operator. The longest uninterrupted descent is 6 kilometers (3.7 miles), and the Camino Panoramico follows 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of slope facing Lake Nahuel Huapi. The 1,500 level is the hub of the mountain. The Principal chairlift arrives here from the base, the Lenga chairlift leaves for 1,720 meters (5,643 feet), and the three magic carpets of the beginner zone, where the operator promises reliable snow for first timers, all sit at this height.
Villa La Angostura was founded on 15 May 1932 and counted 11,063 residents at the 2010 census. The town takes its name from the narrow isthmus that joins it to the Quetrihue Peninsula, and it lies within Nahuel Huapi National Park, about 83 kilometers (52 miles) from San Carlos de Bariloche and 43 kilometers (27 miles) from the Chilean border.
