About this webcam
The Villa Maria Webcam looks across the Plaza of the Americas on the riverfront of Villa Maria, a city of about 96,000 people in Cordoba Province, Argentina. A line of flagpoles crosses the foreground, flying the flags of Argentina, Mexico, the United States and other nations of the Americas, while cars and pickups loop around a roundabout with a circular fountain on the left. The blue steel arch of the Presidente Peron Bridge rises at the right edge of the frame, and a tall white tower block stands above the trees behind. The local news and city guide site Portal 5900 runs the stream as a weather camera, so its caption bar shows the local time, temperature and humidity. In October some of the trees around the plaza turn pink with blossom.
About Villa Maria
Villa Maria stands on the left bank of the Ctalamochita River, also known as the Tercero, at an elevation of 196 meters (643 feet). It is the seat of the General San Martin Department and lies 137 kilometers (85 miles) southeast of the city of Cordoba, where National Routes 9 and 158 cross right beside the Cordoba to Buenos Aires highway. Manuel Anselmo Ocampo founded the town on September 27, 1867, and the 2022 census counted 96,061 residents. The smaller town of Villa Nueva faces it across the river.
The camera sits at the Presidente Peron Bridge, an arch bridge named after Juan Domingo Peron that crosses the river at the Costanera, the riverside park that lines the water. The Plaza of the Americas lies right beside the bridge, which explains the row of flags, and its paving fans out in gray and white stripes beneath the poles. Portal 5900 describes the camera as a moving dome, so the angle can change from the view described here.
About 700 meters (0.4 miles) west along the same riverbank stands the Anfiteatro Municipal, the city amphitheater whose stage is named after the folk musician Hernan Figueroa Reyes. Built in 1968 and enlarged in 1996 and 2005, it holds 12,000 people and hosts Villa Maria’s national and international folk music festival every February.
Weather and Climate in Villa Maria
Villa Maria has hot summers and mild, dry winters. In reanalysis data for 2016 to 2025, January afternoons averaged about 30 C (86 F), and highs stay close to that from December through February. Most of the year’s rain falls between October and April, so this is the season when the trees around the plaza are in full leaf and a passing shower can leave the roads around the fountain shining wet. Summer is also when the riverfront fills up.
Autumn cools steadily, with highs falling from around 27 C (80 F) in March to about 19 C (66 F) in May. June and July are the coolest months, with afternoons near 16 C (61 F), and June to August is the dry season, with far less rain than summer. Clear winter nights get much colder than the days. Spring warms from about 22 C (72 F) in September to 28 C (82 F) in November, and that is when the pink blossom appears. The caption bar on the stream gives the reading at the camera itself, which is the quickest way to check conditions on the riverfront at any hour.
Things to Do Near Villa Maria
The Costanera is the obvious first stop. This renovated park along the Ctalamochita has wide lawns for walking, running and exercise, and in summer families gather there around grills, tables and folding chairs. The amphitheater sits on the same stretch of riverbank, and the Dr. Carlos Emilio Pizzorno lookout, under 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) east of the plaza, is a viewpoint over the river. The municipal campground is also by the water, close to the Juan B. Alberdi Bridge.
Away from the river, the Fernando Bonfiglioli Municipal Fine Arts Museum is about 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) east of the camera. The city also has a general store museum (Museo de Ramos Generales), the Don Iris Automobile Museum and a railway museum. Plaza Centenario, with its fountain, is where crowds gathered to celebrate wins by the national football team. The city is also home to the National University of Villa Maria and a regional faculty of the National Technological University.
