About this webcam
The Zelenogradsk Webcam looks along the Baltic seafront of this Russian resort town from a rooftop beside the Eye of the Baltic Ferris wheel. Open sea and a wide band of sky fill the left of the frame, dark groynes run out through the surf, and the sand-colored promenade curves away toward the Curonian Spit. White cabins from the wheel hang close to the lens on the right, with the Wind Rose square and red-roofed buildings behind them. Kaliningrad.Ru, the regional news portal, runs this camera, and the Zelenogradsk sanatorium shows it on its own site. A second camera looks the other way along the beach. The water changes the most from hour to hour: heavy surf can turn the shallows between the groynes white, and on quieter days they sit in much calmer water.
About Zelenogradsk
Zelenogradsk sits on the Sambian coast of the Baltic Sea, 34 kilometers (21 miles) north of Kaliningrad, in the Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania. It had 17,296 residents at the 2021 census. The town lies beside the point where the Curonian Spit leaves the mainland, so it is the natural gateway to the spit without being on it.
The place began as an Old Prussian fishing village, with a founding date given as 1252. Its German name, Cranz, comes from the Old Prussian word krantas, meaning the coast. From 1816 to 1895 it was known as the royal bathing resort, and the railway from Konigsberg, now Kaliningrad, arrived in 1885. Cranz became the main seaside resort of the East Prussian coast and was often compared with Bognor Regis in England. It took its present name in 1946, after the Soviet takeover, and much of its holiday trade then moved along the coast to Svetlogorsk.
The main camera sits west of the wheel and looks roughly east. The Eye of the Baltic stands 50 meters (164 feet) tall and was installed in summer 2021, and the circular mosaic of the Wind Rose square lies just beyond it at the right edge of the picture. The seafront promenade runs for about 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles), and the second camera follows it west toward the town’s 150 meter (492 foot) pier, which stands roughly 400 meters (1,312 feet) from the wheel. Kaliningrad.Ru files that second view as its sunset camera.

Things to Do Near Zelenogradsk
Everything in the frame can be reached on foot. A ride on the Eye of the Baltic takes about 10 minutes and looks out over the same stretch of coast as the camera. The promenade leads west to the pier, and Kurortny Prospekt, the main street of the historic quarter, holds the Resort Fashion Museum at number 5. The Murarium is a cat museum opened in 2012 inside a 40 meter (131 foot) water tower, with more than 4,500 exhibits. The Cathedral of the Transfiguration, built in the late 19th century as the Lutheran church of St. Adalbert, has a 42 meter (138 foot) spire and opened as an Orthodox church in August 2007. A monument to the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz, erected in 2015, marks his visit in 1824.
The Curonian Spit National Park is the big day trip. This UNESCO World Heritage sand spit runs for 98 kilometers (61 miles) from Zelenogradsk toward Klaipeda in Lithuania, and it narrows to 400 meters (1,312 feet) at points and widens to 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) at others. Stops along it include the Dancing Forest. Back in town, the local history museum occupies the early 20th century mansion of the lawyer Max Krell on Lenina Street.
