About AIDAblu
AIDAblu is a modified Sphinx-class cruise ship built for AIDA Cruises by MEYER WERFT in Papenburg, Germany. Delivered in 2010, it was the first vessel in the modified version of the Sphinx class. Its sister ships in this series are AIDAsol, AIDAmar, and AIDAstella.
The ship measures 253.3 m (831 ft) long and has a molded beam of 32.2 m (106 ft). MEYER WERFT lists its gross tonnage at 71,300 GT and passenger capacity at 2,194. The vessel has 14 decks and a listed speed of 23 knots (43 km/h / 26 mph).
Among the ship’s more distinctive design features is the Theatrium, a central venue enclosed partly by large safety-glass surfaces. AIDAblu was also built with an onboard brewery, which uses water supplied through the ship’s seawater desalination system. Its design incorporates features intended to improve efficiency, including optimized propellers, a low-friction underwater coating, and systems that recover energy from waste heat generated during onboard operations.

The AIDAblu Webcam is identified by AIDA Cruises as the ship’s Bugcam, or bow camera. Its forward view means the scene can change considerably between open-water sailing and approaches to land.
At sea, viewers may see the ocean, horizon, cloud formations, and passing marine traffic. As the vessel nears land, coastlines, islands, harbor entrances, and city skylines may come into view. Port calls can bring cruise terminals, docks, breakwaters, ferries, tugboats, and other cruise ships into the camera’s field of view. Lighting, visibility, and the ship’s heading all affect what appears on the live cruise ship camera.
AIDAblu’s Modified Sphinx-Class Design
AIDAblu marked the beginning of MEYER WERFT’s modified Sphinx-class series for AIDA Cruises. Compared with the earlier Sphinx-class ships, the updated design incorporated additional space for the onboard spa area. The builder subsequently delivered AIDAsol, AIDAmar, and AIDAstella in the same modified series between 2011 and 2013.
The vessel also reflects the recognizable Sphinx-class layout developed for AIDA Cruises, while its 14-deck configuration distinguishes the modified series from the earlier ships. Together with the official AIDAblu Webcam, these characteristics make it possible to follow views from a ship that has been part of the AIDA fleet since 2010.
