Island Princess Webcam – Follow a Coral Class Panamax Ship

Stream hours: Princess Cruises puts a new satellite image from the bridge online about every 5 minutes, and the player loads each one by itself. After dark the picture is mostly black, and a frame can lag when visibility, weather or the satellite link allow.

About this webcam
The Island Princess Webcam shows the view ahead from the bridge of Island Princess, the second of the two Coral Class ships Princess Cruises built to the Panamax size of the original Panama Canal locks. Princess refreshes the image every five minutes over the ship’s satellite link, so each visit brings a still photograph rather than a moving stream. The ship’s foremast and its crossbar stand at the bottom center of the frame, and at sea the horizon runs across the upper third. Text frames the picture on three sides: the ship’s name with the UTC and local times in the top left corner, the temperature in the top right, and a caption at the bottom saying whether she is in port or which port she is bound for.
About Island Princess
Island Princess was built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France, which launched her on July 2, 2002 and completed her on June 18, 2003. Olympic gold medalists Jamie Sale and David Pelletier named the ship, the christening took place on July 11, 2003, and she sailed her maiden voyage the next day. She is the second Princess ship to carry the name, after the first Island Princess of 1972, and she and her sister Coral Princess are the only Panamax ships in the Princess fleet.
For many years her pattern has been seven-day Alaska cruises between Vancouver and Whittier in summer, and Panama Canal voyages of 10 to 15 days in the other seasons, calling at ports such as Cabo San Lucas, Puntarenas, Cartagena and Oranjestad. In 2015 she sailed in Europe for the first time, on cruises between Barcelona and Venice. She is registered in Hamilton, Bermuda.

What Can You See on the Island Princess Webcam?
With the mast fixed in the foreground, the Island Princess Webcam reads like a view over the bow. On a sea day the rest of the frame is water and sky, and small details carry it: whitecaps when the wind is up, a gray haze that blurs the horizon, a patch of sun on the swell. Near land, mountains, islands and other ships come into view, and in port the picture can look across a harbor basin to a city waterfront. Because Princess only refreshes the still, a ship turning in a narrow channel can look quite different from one frame to the next. At night the image is close to black, and the cruise line notes that weather, visibility and the satellite link all affect delivery.
Built for the Panama Canal Locks
As Panamax ships, the Coral Class pair fit the original Panama Canal locks, whose chambers are 33.5 meters (110 feet) wide with 305 meters (1,000 feet) of usable length. At 294 meters (964 feet) long and 32.3 meters (106 feet) across at the waterline, Island Princess passes through with about 1.2 meters (4 feet) to spare in width, while her bridge wings reach 37.2 meters (122 feet) and overhang the chamber walls. As built, she paired two Wartsila 16V46C diesel engines with a General Electric LM2500+ gas turbine, turning two shafts with fixed-pitch propellers.
A major refit in 2015 removed a lounge and the aft part of the promenade to make room for 121 new staterooms, raising capacity from 1,974 to 2,200 guests at double occupancy. The same work took away the two decorative turbine cylinders that topped her funnel, which changed the ship’s profile. Her most recent big dry dock came in September 2024 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy.
