About this webcam
The Girona Railway Station Webcam looks southwest from a high vantage point in central Girona, straight down the raised line that carries the city’s conventional trains into the station. The viaduct crosses the frame on concrete piers above a street of parked cars, while the long platform canopies of Girona station stretch away into the distance on the left. To the right, a wide paved square with lawns and trees runs alongside the tracks, and rows of apartment blocks close the view. The camera is run by ASAFEGI, a railway heritage association, and it catches a steady flow of traffic: RG1 commuter trains, R11 regional and mid-distance services, and freight trains run by Renfe and Transfesa. The operator notes that maintenance trains sometimes work the line overnight.
About Girona Railway Station
Girona’s first station opened in 1862 on the line north from Barcelona, which today runs on to Portbou and the French border at Cerbere. In 1973 the station moved up onto the viaduct seen on camera. The upper level has three platforms, all on the 1,668 mm (5 ft 5.7 in) Iberian gauge used across most of the Spanish network. The station stands on Placa d’Espanya, about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) southwest of the historic center, which is why a camera aimed southwest from downtown finds the platforms rather than the old quarter.
A second station lies out of sight, 26 meters (85 feet) below ground. It opened on 8 January 2013 on the standard-gauge high-speed line, with two island platforms and four tracks for AVE, Avant, Avlo and French TGV trains. Because those platforms are underground, high-speed trains never show up on this webcam. Renfe runs most services through Girona, SNCF operates the French high-speed trains, and the two levels together handled 3,624,517 passengers in 2018.
Girona itself had 108,666 residents at the start of 2025 and stands 76 meters (249 feet) above sea level where the Ter, Onyar, Galligants and Guell rivers meet. Barcelona lies 99 kilometers (62 miles) to the southwest, the direction the camera faces, so trains leaving past the far end of the platforms are heading for the Catalan capital.
Weather and Climate in Girona
Girona has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. Figures from Girona Airport for 1991 to 2020 put the average July high at 30.6°C (87°F) and the low at 17.1°C (63°F), so summer afternoons on camera are usually bright and dry. January averages 13.7°C (57°F) by day but only 1.3°C (34°F) at night. In winter the trees beside the viaduct drop their leaves, which opens up more of the street below the tracks.
Spring and autumn are mild. April averages 19.6°C (67°F) by day and 6.5°C (44°F) at night, and October 22.4°C (72°F) and 10.6°C (51°F). Rainfall totals about 704 millimeters (27.7 inches) a year. On clear days a line of distant hills shows above the apartment blocks on the right of the frame.
Things to Do Near Girona Railway Station
The old town is a walk of about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) from the station, across the Onyar. The river is lined with houses whose facades were painted in 1982 in a palette of 29 colors, and the iron Pont de les Peixateries Velles, finished by Gustave Eiffel’s company in 1877, a decade before work began on the Eiffel Tower, crosses it in the middle of town. Above the river, the stone vault of Girona Cathedral spans 22.98 meters (75 feet), the second widest in the world after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Basilica of Sant Feliu stands close by, and the narrow lanes of the Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, hold the Girona Museum of Jewish History.
The Passeig de la Muralla follows Girona’s medieval walls around the old town, and the missing eastern sections were rebuilt between 1983 and 2003. Parc de la Devesa holds more than 2,500 plane trees, most of them planted around 1850, and it hosts the Fires de Sant Narcis fair and a Saturday market. Railway fans can also visit ASAFEGI’s museum station at Fornells de la Selva, just south of Girona, which opens on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, except in July, August and over Christmas.

Trains on view include RG1 commuter services, R11 regional and mid-distance trains, and Renfe and Transfesa freight.
Can you see AVE high-speed trains on the Girona Railway Station Webcam?
No. Girona’s high-speed platforms are underground, 26 meters (85 feet) below the street, so AVE, Avant, Avlo and TGV trains never appear on this camera. Every train it shows uses the conventional line on the viaduct.
Does the webcam show the Onyar River or Girona’s old town?
No. The camera points southwest, away from the old quarter, which lies about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) northeast of the station on the far side of the Onyar. The colored riverside houses and the cathedral are out of shot.
How long is the train from Girona to Barcelona?
AVE high-speed trains reach Barcelona in about 37 minutes from the underground platforms. Conventional trains on the viaduct, the kind seen on this webcam, take about 1 hour 15 minutes on the faster mid-distance services and about 1 hour 35 minutes on stopping regional trains.
How do you get from Girona train station to Girona airport?
Girona-Costa Brava Airport is 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of the town center and has no railway station of its own; the nearest halt, Riudellots, is 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) away. Buses run between the airport and the bus terminal beside the train station in about 30 minutes.
What is the weather like in Girona?
Summers are hot, with July highs averaging 30.6°C (87°F), and winters are cool, with January lows averaging 1.3°C (34°F). Spring and autumn are mild, at around 20 to 22°C (68 to 72°F) by day in April and October. About 704 millimeters (27.7 inches) of rain falls in a typical year.
Who runs the Girona Railway Station Webcam?
ASAFEGI, the Associacio d’Amics del Ferrocarril de les Comarques Gironines, a railway heritage group founded in 1991. It runs several live railcams around Girona, including two at Fornells de la Selva, and keeps a museum station there.
