About this webcam

The Cala Torret Webcam looks out from the rooftops above a small rocky cove on the southeast coast of Menorca, in the municipality of Sant Lluis. Terracotta tiles and whitewashed chimneys fill the foreground, two-storey white villas step down the slope on the left, and a low shelf of pale limestone runs out into the Mediterranean. Beyond it the coast curves away to the east, and on a clear day a flat island carrying a lighthouse tower sits on the horizon. The light does most of the work on this view. At midday the water close to the rocks can turn turquoise, passing clouds drag shadows across the villas, and a southerly swell can send white water over the point. The camera belongs to Avista Baleares, a network of cameras across the Balearic Islands run by the island telecoms company IB-RED, and it streams around the clock.

About Cala Torret

Cala Torret is a narrow inlet on the stretch of south coast between Binibeca and Biniancolla, one of a string of small coastal settlements in Sant Lluis along with Binissafuller, Punta Prima, Alcafar and S’Algar. The cove gives its name to the cluster of white holiday houses around it, and the camera looks down from among those houses. The end of the inlet shows at the bottom right of the frame, a slot of dark water between the neighboring house and the rocks. There is no sand here. The shore is bare, weathered limestone, the water stays clear, and the cove is used for snorkeling and diving, with a couple of beach bars and a few pines for shade.

The island on the horizon is Illa de l’Aire, about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) east-southeast of the cove and roughly 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) off the cape at Punta Prima. It covers only 0.34 square kilometers (0.13 square miles), yet it carries one of Menorca’s best-known lighthouses, and it is home to a black subspecies of Lilford’s wall lizard, Podarcis lilfordi lilfordi, known locally as the sargantana negra. In the middle distance a single dark marker stands in open water.

Sant Lluis itself was founded by the French in 1761, during their occupation of Menorca. The municipality had about 7,300 residents in 2025 and covers 34.75 square kilometers (13.4 square miles). Mahon, the island capital, lies about 8 kilometers (5 miles) north of the cove in a straight line.

Weather and Climate in Cala Torret

The nearest long-term record is from Menorca Airport, inland at 91 meters (299 feet). Summer is hot and dry: July and August average highs of 29 C (84 F), with nights around 21 C (70 F). That is when the Cala Torret Webcam is at its brightest, with hard light on the white walls, often a flat sea and the island on the horizon sharp against the sky. Spring warms slowly, from April highs of 18 C (64 F) and lows of 11 C (51 F).

Autumn stays warm longer than visitors expect, with October highs of 23 C (73 F) and lows of 16 C (61 F), but it is also the wettest season, and heavy rain is not unusual in October and November. November is the wettest month at 88 millimeters (3.5 inches), out of 546 millimeters (21.5 inches) a year. Winter is mild rather than cold, with January highs of 14 C (57 F) and lows near 8 C (46 F). On those grey days the limestone darkens, the horizon can vanish into haze, and a winter swell can break white against the point.

Things to Do Near Cala Torret

Binibeca Vell, about 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) to the west, looks like an old fishing village but was built in 1972 to a design by the architect Antonio Sintes Mercadal. It is a tight maze of narrow cobbled lanes and two-storey whitewashed houses trimmed in dark natural wood, wrapped around a small harbor, and it is one of the most photographed spots on the island. Just beyond it, Platja de Binibeca is a sandy beach backed by pines, 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from Sant Lluis and 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from Mahon, and the nearest sand to Cala Torret.

East along the coast, Cala Biniancolla is a small cove with a hotel and boats anchored for trips around the island. Punta Prima, less than 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) east of the camera, has a large beach of fine white sand looking straight across to Illa de l’Aire. Inland, the town of Sant Lluis keeps the Moli de Dalt, the best preserved of its three windmills, built in 1762 and now an ethnological museum showing the tools the millers used. Mahon is a short drive north.
