About this webcam
The Technik Museum Sinsheim Webcam is a 4K panorama camera looking down on the outdoor grounds of the museum in Sinsheim, Baden-Wurttemberg, in southwest Germany. It works through a loop of fixed views. The best known shows the two supersonic airliners on the roof of Hall 2, an Air France Concorde and a Soviet Tupolev Tu-144, both raised nose up as if leaving the runway. Other views settle on the U17 submarine, the IMAX 3D main entrance and the restaurant plaza, a car park watched over by a yellow flying boat in French Securite Civile colors, and wider shots over Sinsheim and the A6 autobahn. A second tab switches to the sister museum’s camera in Speyer.
About Technik Museum Sinsheim
The museum opened in 1981 and is run by a registered association, Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim e.V., which also runs the Technik Museum Speyer. It shows more than 3,000 exhibits across more than 50,000 square meters (540,000 square feet) and draws over a million visitors a year, which makes it the largest privately owned museum in Europe. It stands on the edge of Sinsheim, a town of about 37,100 people on the Elsenz river, at 154 meters (505 feet) above sea level.
The roof is what made the place famous. The Tu-144 arrived in 2001, and Air France donated Concorde F-BVFB in 2003, so Sinsheim became the only place in the world where both supersonic airliners are shown together. The Tu-144 first flew on December 31, 1968, the first supersonic transport to take to the air, and its registration CCCP-77112 is easy to read on the tail when the camera turns that way. Stairs and walkways lead up to both aircraft, and visitors can climb inside and look into the cockpits.
The newest arrival is U17, a Type 206A submarine of the German Navy, about 48 meters (157 feet) long. Its four-week move began at the Speyer museum on June 30, 2024. A pontoon carried it along the Rhine and Neckar, tilted more than 70 degrees to clear Heidelberg’s Old Bridge, then it went ashore at Hassmersheim and continued by road through Bad Rappenau and across the A6, reaching Sinsheim on July 28, 2024. The camera sometimes runs its U17 view with an information panel across the lower screen, listing about 50 kilometers (31 miles) of road through the Kraichgau, a 30-axle trailer on 240 wheels and a top speed of 10 km/h (6 mph).
Weather and Climate in Sinsheim
Averages for 2015 to 2024 put January highs at about 5 C (41 F), with nights close to freezing, so frosty mornings are common in midwinter. Spring warms from 11 C (52 F) highs in March to 19 C (66 F) in May. July and August are the warmest months, with highs near 26 C (78 F) and nights around 16 C (60 F). Autumn cools from 21 C (70 F) in September to 16 C (60 F) in October and 9 C (49 F) in November.
The seasons show plainly on camera. By mid-October the trees around the museum and on the hills behind Concorde are turning yellow and brown, and under low cloud the white airframes stand out against a flat grey sky. On busy days groups of visitors line the walkway up to the Tu-144. After dark, floodlights pick out the IMAX entrance, the plaza and the flying boat on its pylon.
Things to Do Near Sinsheim
The museum itself fills a day. Beyond the two airliners and U17, the halls hold historic vehicles of every kind, and the gold IMAX 3D lettering in the plaza view marks a 22 by 27 meter (72 by 89 foot) IMAX 3D theatre. The sister museum in Speyer, 34 kilometers (21 miles) to the west, has shown the Buran spacecraft prototype since 2008, and the same trip can take in Speyer Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Around Sinsheim, Burg Steinsberg in the village of Weiler keeps an octagonal tower from the 13th century, and the medieval town center still has its Altes Rathaus, the old town hall. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim play in Sinsheim at a 30,164-seat stadium that opened in 2009. Heidelberg is 22 kilometers (14 miles) to the northwest, with its old town, the castle above it and the Old Bridge that U17 passed beneath on the way to the museum.

Where is the Technik Museum Sinsheim?
On the edge of Sinsheim in the Rhine-Neckar district of Baden-Wurttemberg, southwest Germany, next to the A6 autobahn. Heidelberg is 22 kilometers (14 miles) to the northwest.
Which museum has both Concorde and the Tu-144?
Technik Museum Sinsheim is the only place in the world where both supersonic airliners are displayed together. The Tu-144 came in 2001 and Air France gave Concorde F-BVFB in 2003. They stand side by side on the roof of Hall 2, and both appear on this webcam.
Can you go inside Concorde at Technik Museum Sinsheim?
Yes. Stairs and walkways lead up to Concorde and the Tu-144, and visitors can climb into the cabins and look into the cockpits. The walkway to the Tu-144 is in shot in the camera’s Tu-144 view.
What is the difference between Technik Museum Sinsheim and Speyer?
The same association runs both. Sinsheim has the two supersonic airliners, U17 and the IMAX 3D theatre. Speyer, on the Rhine, has the Buran spacecraft prototype, and its own panorama camera, on the second tab of this player, is named after its Boeing 747, the U9 submarine and an Antonov An-22.
Does the webcam show the IMAX cinema at Sinsheim?
From outside. The plaza view looks onto the main entrance with the gold IMAX 3D letters above it, the restaurant terraces and the entrance to Halls 2 and 3. The screen and auditorium are indoors and never on camera.
What is the weather like in Sinsheim?
Summer highs average about 26 C (78 F) in July and August, January highs about 5 C (41 F) with nights near freezing, and spring and autumn sit mostly between 11 and 21 C (52 and 70 F). Rain falls in every month, so the camera is a quick check before a day on the open roof.
