About this webcam
The Egmond aan Zee Webcam sits above Restaurant Van Speijk at the village’s main beach access, the Hoofdstrandafgang, and usually looks west down the sandy path to the North Sea. A beach pavilion with a glass-walled terrace stands on one side of the path and a boardwalk ramp on the other. It is a PTZ camera, so it also moves between presets, such as a wider shot over the boulevard and a dune to the beach, or a view south toward Restaurant Comer and the maritime zone with the KNRM lifeboat station. Five more cameras from the same local operator run in the tabs: the Bad Egmond beach pavilion, the Pompplein square, the lighthouse, a rooftop weather station and De Egmonden on the edge of the dunes.
About Egmond aan Zee
Egmond aan Zee is a seaside village on the North Holland coast, about 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) west of Alkmaar and roughly 45 kilometers (28 miles) from Amsterdam. It had 4,535 residents in 2025. The village was a municipality of its own until 1978, when it joined Egmond-Binnen and Egmond aan den Hoef to form Egmond, and that municipality became part of Bergen on 1 January 2001. For centuries most people here lived from fishing. Former fishermen’s houses, a fishermen’s monument and the Prins Hendrik Stichting, a building that once housed retired fishermen, still recall that past.
The village landmark is the J.C.J. van Speijk lighthouse, built in 1833 and 1834 and first lit on 30 September 1834. It is named after naval lieutenant Jan van Speijk, who blew up his own ship in 1831 rather than surrender it, and its base is shaped as a memorial tomb in his honor. The tower stands 28 meters (92 feet) tall, and its light shines 37 meters (121 feet) above sea level. Most years in early January the Egmond Half Marathon sends its runners 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) along this beach before they climb into the dunes of the Noordhollands Duinreservaat and pass the lighthouse on the way to the finish.
Weather and Climate in Egmond aan Zee
At the KNMI station at De Kooy, near Den Helder further up the same coast, January afternoons average 6°C (43°F) with nights around 2°C (35°F), and April warms to about 12°C (54°F) by day. July is the warmest month, with average highs of 21°C (69°F) and lows of 14°C (57°F). October stays mild at 14°C (58°F) by day and 9°C (48°F) at night. The station records about 787 millimeters (31 inches) of rain and some 1,888 hours of sunshine a year, on its 1991 to 2020 averages.
Even on a grey October afternoon, the day this page was checked, a steady line of walkers in coats was heading to the water and the surf was breaking white along the whole beach. The Weather Station tab is the quickest way to judge the day: the operator says the stream carries live temperature, wind, rain, air pressure and humidity readings from its Davis Vantage station on the coast.
Things to Do Near Egmond aan Zee
Restaurant Van Speijk stands at the sea end of the Voorstraat, the village’s main street, which is lined with shops and restaurants around the Pompplein, the square on the Pompplein tab. The Museum van Egmond shows what life in the fishing village used to be like.
South of the village, walking and cycling trails lead into the Noordhollands Duinreservaat, the dune reserve the half marathon crosses on its way back from Castricum aan Zee, and the Torensduin has a lookout tower with views over the trees. The Sint-Adelbertabdij, described as the oldest abbey in the Netherlands, welcomes visitors who want a quiet moment inside. Alkmaar, with its cheese market, is within cycling distance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Egmond aan Zee located?
Egmond aan Zee is on the North Sea coast of North Holland in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Bergen. It lies about 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) west of Alkmaar and roughly 45 kilometers (28 miles) from Amsterdam. The main camera is mounted above Restaurant Van Speijk at the main beach access, next to the Lido Apartments.
What can you see on the Egmond aan Zee Webcam?
The main camera usually looks west down the beach path to the sand, the surf and the open North Sea, and turns to other presets during the day. The tabs add the terrace of the Bad Egmond beach pavilion looking over a wide beach to the sea, the brick-paved Pompplein with its long wooden benches and cafe terraces, a dune and car park beside the lighthouse with the sea to the right, a fisheye rooftop view from the weather station, and a road junction on the wooded edge of the village by De Egmonden.
Is there a webcam on the Pompplein in Egmond aan Zee?
Yes. The Pompplein tab on this page is the operator’s dome camera over the square in the center of the village, run together with Boekhandel Dekker. It looks across the brick paving and long wooden benches to the restaurant fronts and terraces, with a church spire rising over the rooftops behind.
Does the Egmond aan Zee Webcam show the lighthouse?
Not reliably. The Lighthouse tab is the operator’s camera at the J.C.J. van Speijk lighthouse, run with Hotel de Vassy, and the operator describes its view as sea, beach and boulevard. When it was checked for this page, it showed a grassy dune with a railed path up its side and the boulevard car park, with the sea to the right and the tower itself out of shot.
What is the weather like in Egmond aan Zee?
Mild and often windy. At the KNMI station at De Kooy, up the coast near Den Helder, average highs run from about 6°C (43°F) in January to 21°C (69°F) in July, with roughly 787 millimeters (31 inches) of rain a year. For the conditions right now, open the Weather Station tab, which carries the operator’s live readings.
Is there a surf webcam in Egmond aan Zee?
Not a dedicated one, but the main Egmond aan Zee Webcam and the Bad Egmond tab both face the surf line, so the size of the breakers and the state of the sea are easy to judge. The main camera moves between presets, so give it a minute if it is pointing at the boulevard.
When is the Egmond Half Marathon?
The Egmond Half Marathon is usually held in early January and has run since 1973. The 2010 edition was the first to be called off, because of bad weather. The 21.1 kilometer (13.1 mile) route starts on the Boulevard Noord, runs about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) along the beach, then turns inland through the dunes and finishes back on the boulevard.
