The Kralingseplein Webcam looks west along the Abram van Rijckevorselweg as it runs into the Kralingseplein junction with the A16 motorway, on the eastern edge of Rotterdam. Cars, vans and trucks fill a wide carriageway in the lower half of the frame and sort themselves into lanes under an overhead gantry: left for the A16 south toward Dordrecht, right for the A16 north toward Den Haag and Utrecht, straight on for Rotterdam-Centrum. A row of traffic lights hangs across the junction, and behind it a steady stream of A16 traffic crosses the picture on the raised motorway. The camera sits on a rooftop in Capelle aan den IJssel, about 400 meters (a quarter mile) east of the junction, high enough to watch queues form at the lights and clear again as each phase changes.
Kralingseplein is the junction where the Abram van Rijckevorselweg, numbered N210, meets the A16 close to the boundary between Rotterdam’s Kralingen district and Capelle aan den IJssel. The signs above the lanes in frame list Kralingse Zoom, Erasmus MC and the port areas as well as the city center, and the A16 signs carry port area numbers too. Two business parks sit on opposing sides of the A16, Rivium and Brainpark, and office blocks line the top of the frame beyond the motorway. On the right edge of the picture a narrow strip of water runs beside the road between grass banks and reeds. About 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) south of the camera, out of frame, the A16 crosses the river on the Van Brienenoord Bridge.
The camera is an Axis Q1808-LE bullet camera mounted on the roof of the Dutch office of Axis Communications at Fascinatio Boulevard 522 in Capelle aan den IJssel. The building also houses the company’s Experience Center, where visitors get hands-on time with network video, access control and audio systems. The current YouTube broadcast began on 30 January 2025. Axis describes the images as purely scenic, says they are not intended for identification or recognition, and states that it does not record the footage.
Capelle aan den IJssel lies on the eastern edge of Rotterdam along the Hollandse IJssel river. It had 67,319 residents in 2021 on 15.4 square kilometers (5.95 square miles). Rivium, the business park right behind the camera, is also the end of the line for the ParkShuttle, a driverless electric shuttle that crosses the N210 on a bridge and passes under the A16 on its way from Kralingse Zoom metro station.
The climate here is mild and damp. Over the ten years from 2016 to 2025, January afternoons averaged about 7 C (44 F) with nights near 2 C (36 F), so frost can whiten the grass banks beside the road on clear winter mornings. Spring warms slowly, from highs of about 11 C (51 F) in March to 18 C (64 F) in May. July and August are the warmest months, with highs of 22 to 23 C (72 to 73 F) and nights around 15 C (59 F).
Rain falls in every month, from roughly 55 millimeters (2.2 inches) in April to close to 90 millimeters (3.5 inches) in October, the wettest month. On a wet day the lanes in frame can turn glossy, with the traffic lights reflected in the asphalt. In autumn the reeds along the water on the right fade to straw, and the trees on the embankment in the middle distance thin out. Short winter days mean the evening commute in December runs under the streetlights, while in June and July the junction stays in daylight well into the evening.
The ParkShuttle is the most unusual ride in the area. Its fully automatic vehicles run 1.8 kilometers (1.1 miles) between Kralingse Zoom metro station and Rivium, with stops at Fascinatio and at Rivium’s 1st, 2nd and 4th streets. The system first opened in 1999 and has been extended since. The third generation of shuttles went into service in November 2022, lighter than the old ones, air-conditioned and able to drive in both directions. Connexxion operates the line, and the route is double-lane apart from the bridge over the N210 and the underpass below the A16.
About 1.7 kilometers (1.1 miles) west of the camera, Arboretum Trompenburg on the Honingerdijk is a tree garden in the Kralingen district. Farther north, roughly 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) from the junction, the Kralingse Bos is a large park wrapped around an artificial lake, the Kralingse Plas, which many Rotterdam residents use for relaxation and sport. In Capelle aan den IJssel itself, the Dief- en Duifhuisje, or House of Thieves and Pigeons, is a former prison from a 17th-century castle and probably the smallest museum in the Netherlands. Central Rotterdam and the Erasmus Bridge are about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) to the west.

Kralingseplein is a junction on the A16 motorway at the eastern edge of Rotterdam, in the province of South Holland, where the Abram van Rijckevorselweg (N210) from Capelle aan den IJssel meets the motorway. The Erasmus Bridge in central Rotterdam is about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) to the west.
The camera faces west down the Abram van Rijckevorselweg toward the junction. In frame are the lanes splitting under the A16 direction signs, a line of traffic lights across the junction, A16 traffic on the raised motorway behind, office buildings on the skyline and a reed-lined strip of water along the right edge.
Axis Communications runs it from the roof of its Dutch office and Experience Center at Fascinatio Boulevard 522 in Capelle aan den IJssel. The stream comes from an Axis Q1808-LE bullet camera and is published on the YouTube channel Axis Experience Center The Netherlands.
Axis states that it does not record the footage and that the images are meant only as a view, not for identification or recognition.
The live picture shows how full the approach to the A16 is at that moment, including queues at the lights and the traffic on the motorway behind. It is a demonstration stream from a camera maker rather than an official traffic service, and it does not show the Van Brienenoord Bridge, which is about 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) south of the camera.
Mild and damp for most of the year. Average highs run from about 7 C (44 F) in January to 22 to 23 C (72 to 73 F) in July and August, and October is usually the wettest month with close to 90 millimeters (3.5 inches) of rain.
