About this webcam
The SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Webcam looks uptown from the top of One Vanderbilt, the 427-meter (1,401-foot) tower beside Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. The new JPMorgan Chase headquarters at 270 Park Avenue rises straight ahead, so close that its dark glass fills the middle of the frame. To its left, Central Park runs north as a long green block between the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side, with the Hudson River beyond. To the right, the East Side towers step down to the East River and the Queensboro Bridge, and Queens spreads flat to the horizon. EarthCam runs the camera in partnership with SUMMIT, the observation deck near the top of the building. On a clear day the view carries well past Manhattan, and in low cloud the tops of the nearest towers can vanish.
About SUMMIT One Vanderbilt
One Vanderbilt opened on September 14, 2020, on the block bounded by Madison Avenue, Vanderbilt Avenue, 42nd Street and 43rd Street. Kohn Pedersen Fox designed it for the developer SL Green Realty. The spire tops out at 427 meters (1,401 feet) and the roof at 397 meters (1,301 feet), making it the fourth-tallest building in New York City after One World Trade Center, Central Park Tower and 111 West 57th Street. Those last two stand on 57th Street at the south end of Central Park, among the slender towers at the left edge of the frame.
The tower came with a large transit package. Improvements costing over $200 million added subway mezzanines and exits, three new stairways to each Lexington Avenue Line platform, and an underground passage into Grand Central, letting the station handle 4,000 to 6,000 more passengers an hour. SUMMIT opened on October 21, 2021, on floors 91 to 93, with its main level about 311 meters (1,020 feet) above the street. Snohetta designed the interiors. Air, a mirrored infinity room, is by Kenzo Digital, Levitation is a set of glass balconies, and Clouds is an installation by Yayoi Kusama. Ascent, a glass elevator ride up the outside of the building, climbs to about 370 meters (1,210 feet).
The tower in the center of the view is 270 Park Avenue, which covers the whole block between Madison and Park Avenues and 47th and 48th Streets. Foster + Partners designed it as the global headquarters of JPMorgan Chase. It was completed in August 2025 at 423 meters (1,388 feet) and 60 stories, and opened on October 21, 2025. It replaced the 52-story Union Carbide Building, which opened in 1960 and was demolished in 2021.
Weather and Climate in Midtown Manhattan
The figures here are the 1991 to 2020 averages for Central Park, the green block on the left of the frame. Summers are long, hot and humid. July averages 25.3 C (77.5 F), with afternoon highs near 29 C (85 F) and nights around 21 C (70 F), and late-day thundershowers are frequent. January averages 0.9 C (33.7 F), with highs near 4 C (40 F) and lows of -2 C (28 F). An average winter brings about 76 centimeters (30 inches) of snow, which can turn the park white on the left of the frame while the avenues stay dark.

The camera faces uptown. 270 Park Avenue fills the center of the frame, Central Park and the Hudson River are on the left, and the Upper East Side, the East River and the Queensboro Bridge are on the right, with Queens beyond.
Does the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt Webcam show the Empire State Building?
No. The Empire State Building is south of One Vanderbilt, on 34th Street, and this camera points north, so it is behind the lens. The Chrysler Building, two avenues east on 42nd Street, is out of shot too.
What is the tall building in the middle of the webcam view?
That is 270 Park Avenue, the global headquarters of JPMorgan Chase, four blocks north between 47th and 48th Streets. At 423 meters (1,388 feet) it is only 4 meters (13 feet) shorter than One Vanderbilt’s spire, and from the camera its top rises above the horizon.
What is the weather like at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt?
Midtown has hot, humid summers, with July averaging 25.3 C (77.5 F) at Central Park, and cold winters, with January averaging 0.9 C (33.7 F). The deck is about 311 meters (1,020 feet) up, so wind and low cloud matter more there than the temperature in the street.
Is SUMMIT One Vanderbilt worth visiting in bad weather?
Cloud height is what decides it. Low cloud can wrap the top of the building and hide the city below, while light rain under a high cloud base still leaves the skyline in view. Check the webcam before you go: 270 Park Avenue stands higher than the deck, so if its top is sharp against the sky, the view from SUMMIT should be clear too.
What does SUMMIT One Vanderbilt look like at night?
The webcam keeps streaming after dark. At night the frame turns to lit office floors along Park and Madison Avenues, with Central Park as a dark block on the left and the lights of Queens across the East River.
