About this webcam

The Panama City Webcam looks out over the Bay of Panama from high above the Cinta Costera, the bayfront park and highway built on reclaimed land in Panama’s capital. Traffic pours along the multi-lane coastal road on the left of the frame, palms and lawns line the shore, and the city’s high-rise towers curve out along the water to a headland. In the middle of the view, a low causeway lined with trees closes off a lagoon. The stream runs around the clock on the Panama City Live Cam channel, from sunrise over the bay to the lit skyscrapers at night. Nothing changes the picture as much as the tide: at high water the lagoon fills to the shore, and at low water it drains to mud and shallow channels.

About the Cinta Costera and the Bay of Panama

The Cinta Costera is a 26 hectare (64 acre) land reclamation project that runs along the bay from Paitilla to El Chorrillo. Its first stage was finished in 2009 at a cost of $189 million, adding lanes to Avenida Balboa along with walking and cycling paths, parks and public space. A later phase, opened in 2014, carries a 2.5 km (1.6 mile) marine viaduct around the old quarter, Casco Viejo. Between the road and the water in this view sit lawns, an orange-roofed pavilion and fenced sports courts, with an electronic billboard glowing among the towers behind.

The bay belongs to the Gulf of Panama, where the tide rises and falls twice a day with a range of 4 to 6 meters (13 to 20 feet). That is why the scene can look so different from one hour to the next. At 10:46 am on October 10, 2026, the lagoon was a sheet of wet mud cut by channels, with a pale sandbar showing beyond the causeway. The afternoon before, the same lagoon was brimming and calm.

Panama City is home to 410,354 people in the city proper, counted in the 2023 census, and about 2.1 million across the metropolitan area. It sits about 2 meters (6.6 feet) above sea level. On October 9, 2026, this camera also recorded the magnitude 7.7 earthquake reaching the capital: at 12:56:50 pm the picture began to tremble, then swayed slowly for more than a minute. A replay of those minutes sits on the Panama Tsunami Webcam page.

Weather and Climate in Panama City

Panama City has a tropical savanna climate, with a wet season from May through November and a dry season from December through April. The temperature hardly moves through the year. At Albrook Field the monthly mean peaks at 28.0 C (82.4 F) in April and is lowest, at 26.6 C (79.9 F), in October and November. Around 1,900 mm (74.8 inches) of rain falls in an average year.

In the wet months heavy cloud can sit low over the towers, and showers sometimes blur the far side of the bay. The dry season usually brings clearer skies and sharper views of the skyline. On the afternoon of October 9, 2026, in the middle of the wet season, the camera’s own panel read 29 C (84 F) under sun and scattered cloud. The towers stay lit after dark, so the stream keeps a city view through the night.

Things to Do Near the Cinta Costera

The Cinta Costera paths lead southwest to Casco Viejo. The city moved there on 21 January 1673, to a peninsula 8 km (5 miles) from the first settlement, after the privateer Henry Morgan destroyed the original Panama City on 28 January 1671. The ruins of that first city, Panama Viejo, founded on 15 August 1519 by Pedro Arias de Avila, lie east of the modern towers. Together the old quarter and the ruins form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Farther along the shore, the Amador Causeway runs out to sea at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, built from rock excavated when the canal was dug. The Biomuseo, designed by Frank Gehry and completed in 2014, stands on it. For ships, the Miraflores Locks on the canal are a drive northwest of the city, where vessels are raised and lowered between the Pacific and Miraflores Lake.
