About this webcam

The Pori Webcam looks south across the Kokemaki River from the north bank in the center of Pori, the regional capital of Satakunta on Finland’s west coast. The camera moves between several views. Zoomed in, it frames the cast-iron spire of the Central Pori Church rising above the trees of the south bank, with the steel arches of the 1926 Pori Bridge crossing the water below. Swung further west, it follows the Etelaranta riverfront, where yellow stone blocks line the water and small boats tie up at a pier. Cars and people on foot cross the bridge through the day while the brown river slides past underneath. In mid-October the trees along both banks turn yellow and orange.

About Pori

Duke John of Finland, later King John III of Sweden, founded Pori on 8 March 1558 as a harbor and market town closer to the sea than the old river towns of Ulvila and Kokemaki, which ships could no longer reach. The land here has been rising since the last ice age, so the river delta now begins right in front of the city, and the center sits about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Gulf of Bothnia. About 83,000 people lived in Pori at the end of 2025.

Pori has burned down nine times. The Great Fire of 1852 destroyed more than 75 percent of the city, and the Swedish architect C. T. von Chiewitz drew up the new plan, cutting four wide esplanades through the center. The stone blocks of Etelaranta, the “South Shore” along the river, mostly date from after that fire. Chiewitz also designed the Central Pori Church, together with C. J. von Heideken. Built between 1859 and 1863 in the Gothic Revival style, it seats 1,700, and its 72-meter (236-foot) tower is made of cast iron.

The Pori Bridge opened on 26 September 1926 as the first iron bridge across the Kokemaki River. Engineer Jalmar Castren designed it with a 60-meter (197-foot) central arch between two 40-meter (131-foot) side arches, 153.5 meters (504 feet) long in all. Its northern span once lifted to let ships through, but bigger ships and the move of all cargo traffic to Mantyluoto on the coast made the lift unnecessary, and it was last raised in the early 1960s. National road 8 ran over the bridge until the Linnansilta bridge opened in 1974.

Weather and Climate in Pori

Pori has a humid continental climate, softened by the Gulf of Bothnia. At Pori Airport, January averages a high of -1.2°C (30°F) and a low of -7.0°C (19°F). In winter the trees along the south bank stand bare, so more of the church shows through, and snow can settle on the banks and the bridge railings. Spring comes slowly. April highs reach 8.7°C (48°F) while nights still hover near freezing, and May climbs to 15.0°C (59°F).

July is the warmest month, with highs of 21.8°C (71°F) and lows of 12.1°C (54°F), and the station’s record of 33.3°C (91.9°F) was set on 13 July 2010. Rain peaks in late summer and autumn, with 71 mm (2.8 inches) in August and 66 mm (2.6 inches) in October, out of 586 mm (23.1 inches) a year. By mid-October the riverside trees have turned and daytime highs are down to 8.5°C (47°F).

Things to Do Near Pori

Cross the Pori Bridge on its sidewalks to the Central Pori Church, whose glass paintings are by Magnus Enckell, then follow Etelaranta into the old town. The Old Town Hall of 1841 is one of the few buildings that survived the 1852 fire. Pori is considered the birthplace of Finnish-language theater, since the Finnish National Theatre gave its first performance at the Hotel Otava on 13 October 1872. Pori Art Museum shows modern and contemporary art in a former weigh house from 1860. Kirjurinluoto, an island park in the river delta by the center, holds an open-air arena for more than 30,000 people and is the main stage of Pori Jazz, founded in 1966 and held for nine days every July.

Further out, the Juselius Mausoleum at Kappara Cemetery, the only mausoleum in Finland, was built in 1901 for the 11-year-old daughter of businessman Fritz Arthur Juselius and is decorated with frescoes by Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Yyteri Beach, 17 kilometers (10.6 miles) from the center, runs for 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) and draws windsurfers. About 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) beyond it, the island village of Reposaari keeps a townscape of mostly wooden houses, with a church, a marina and a fishing port.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Pori located?

Pori is on the west coast of Finland, on the estuary of the Kokemaki River about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Gulf of Bothnia. It lies 241 kilometers (150 miles) northwest of Helsinki and 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Tampere. The camera stands on the north bank of the river in the city center.

What can you see on the Pori Webcam?

The camera looks south across the Kokemaki River and moves between views. The closer framing centers on the spire of the Central Pori Church, with the arches of the Pori Bridge and its traffic below. The wider framing swings west along the Etelaranta riverfront, with its yellow stone blocks and small boats moored at a pier.

What is the church with the tall spire in Pori?

It is the Central Pori Church, built between 1859 and 1863 to designs by C. T. von Chiewitz and C. J. von Heideken. Its tower is 72 meters (236 feet) tall and made of cast iron, and the church stands at the south end of the Pori Bridge.

Does the Pori Webcam show the market square?

No. The camera faces the river, and the market square (Kauppatori) lies further south in the center, out of sight behind the riverfront blocks.

Is there a webcam at Yyteri beach?

This camera does not show Yyteri. The beach is 17 kilometers (10.6 miles) from the center of Pori on the open coast. The same operator also streams views of Yyteri and Reposaari on its YouTube channel.

Does this webcam show the Port of Pori?

No. Only small boats use the river in front of the camera, because all cargo shipping moved out to Mantyluoto on the coast. That move is why the lifting span of the Pori Bridge has not been raised since the early 1960s.

What is the weather like in Pori?

January averages -1.2°C (30°F) by day and -7.0°C (19°F) at night, while July reaches 21.8°C (71°F) with nights around 12.1°C (54°F). About 586 mm (23.1 inches) of precipitation falls in a year, most of it from June to December. The camera shows the sky and the river as they are right now.
