About this webcam

The Salo Golf Webcam looks out over the 18-hole course of Salo Golf in Southwest Finland, where a broad fairway runs away from the lens between lines of white-barked birches. A cart path curves off to the right past a bench and a signboard, a large many-stemmed tree fills the right edge, and low wooded hills close off the horizon. The course lies in the town’s sports park, about a kilometer (0.6 miles) from the center of Salo, so this is an everyday club view rather than a resort postcard. Golfers can cross the frame in season, and the light shifts the color of the grass from hour to hour. The camera is a Google Nest unit that the club labels Patio.

About Salo Golf

Salo Golf opened in 1992 and plays as a par 71, with 35 on the front nine and 36 on the back. From the back tees the course measures 5,889 meters (6,440 yards), and the shortest set of tees brings it down to 4,077 meters (4,459 yards). It sits on the floor of an open valley and is mostly flat, which is why the camera can see so far down the fairway toward the trees. The Vahajoki river runs through the grounds, and ponds, creeks and stands of trees divide one hole from the next. The ground here is only about 6 meters (20 feet) above sea level.

In 2003 the course hosted the Finnish Championship stroke play events for both women and men. The club keeps its mowing heights on its own front page: 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) on the greens, 15 millimeters (0.6 inches) on the fairways and 48 millimeters (1.9 inches) in the rough. Its neighbors in the sports park are tennis and football courts, an indoor sports hall, an ice hall, a swimming hall and riding stables.

Salo itself had 50,339 residents at the end of 2025. It became a market town in 1887 and a town in 1960, and for years it was best known for phones: Nokia began making mobile phones here in 1981, and the site, later a research and development center, closed in June 2015.

Weather and Climate in Salo

Figures from the Salo Karkka weather station for 1991 to 2020 put the average July high at 23.0 C (73 F), with nights near 12.6 C (55 F). January averages a high of minus 1.0 C (30 F) and a low of minus 7.0 C (19 F). April and October look alike on paper, with highs of 9.8 C (50 F) and 9.1 C (48 F), but October nights stay milder at around 2.6 C (37 F), against minus 0.2 C (32 F) in April.

The club usually opens the course in April and keeps it in play until snow arrives in the autumn, so spring on camera is the first green on the birches and the first players back on the path. At just over 60 degrees north, Salo gets about 19 hours of daylight at midsummer, and the fairway can stay bright late into the evening. By late October the birches are almost bare and fallen leaves lie scattered across the grass in front of the lens. In late December the sun is up for under six hours, so a daylight view of the Salo Golf Webcam in winter means a visit around midday.

Things to Do Near Salo Golf

The club has more than the main course. A three-hole par 3 course needs no Green Card, so beginners can play it, and there is a driving range, putting and chipping greens and a minigolf course beside it. The club runs Green Card courses for new players, and the cafe and restaurant Puistos serves the course. Golfers with a second round in them can drive about 5 km (3.1 miles) west to Wiurila Golf and Country Club in Halikko, another 18-hole course.

In town, the Salo Art Museum occupies Veturitalli, the old locomotive shed about 2 km (1.2 miles) northwest of the course, with a VR Class Vr1 steam locomotive on display. Farther south, in the Pernio area of Salo, Teijo National Park opened on 1 January 2015 and covers 34 square kilometers (13 square miles), with about 50 km (31 miles) of marked trails, 3 km (1.9 miles) of them built for visitors with disabilities. A former ironworks at Kirjakkala inside the park still has log houses from the 1800s, and the old ironworks village of Mathildedal lies about 22 km (13.7 miles) southwest of the course.
