About this webcam

The Windham Mountain Webcam looks up the ski slopes from the base area of Windham Mountain Club, a ski resort in the northern Catskills of New York. The camera faces roughly south over a wide lawn to the bottom terminals of three chairlifts, two under blue canopies and one with a white rounded roof. Lift lines and a cleared trail climb the lower mountain to a wooded ridge on the skyline, and a gravel service road switches back across the left side of the frame. A gray timber building with a deck sits in the foreground, with a patio of lounge seating at the lower right. The scene turns over with the seasons: green grass in summer, orange and gold hardwoods in early October, and snow on the trails once winter arrives.

About Windham Mountain

The resort sits in the town of Windham in Greene County, about two and a half hours’ drive north of New York City. The ski area runs from a base at 460 meters (1,500 feet) to a summit at 940 meters (3,100 feet), a vertical drop of 490 meters (1,600 feet). Its 54 trails cover 285 acres (115 hectares) spread over two peaks, East Peak and West Peak, and the longest run is 3.81 kilometers (2.37 miles).

Eleven lifts serve that terrain: a high-speed six-seat chair, three high-speed quads, a triple, a double and five surface lifts. Several of them load in the base area this camera watches, so in season the chairs can be seen leaving the terminals and heading up the lift lines. Snowmaking covers 97 percent of the skiable terrain, on top of natural snowfall that averages about 2,200 millimeters (86 inches) a year.

The resort opened in 1960 as Cave Mountain Ski Area, became Ski Windham in 1981 and took the name Windham Mountain in 2001. Beall Investment Partners and Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners took majority ownership in April 2023 and renamed it Windham Mountain Club that October. It now runs on memberships but still sells a limited number of day tickets to the public. The town around it had 1,708 residents at the 2020 census, with Route 23 as its main road, the Batavia Kill creek flowing through it, and part of its land inside the Catskill Park.

Weather and Climate at Windham Mountain

Winters here are cold. January in Windham averages a high of about -1 C (31 F) and a low near -13 C (9 F), so snow from storms and from the snowmaking system tends to hold on the trails through the coldest weeks. On the camera, that is when the lawn in front of the lifts turns white and the trail cut up the middle of the frame becomes the quickest way to judge conditions on the lower mountain. Spring warms fast, with April highs averaging about 12 C (53 F).

Summer brings July highs of around 26 C (78 F) and nights that cool to about 11 C (51 F), and the base lawn stays green through the warm months. Autumn is the most colorful time to watch. October highs average about 15 C (59 F), and the hardwoods across the slopes turn orange and gold between darker stands of spruce, as the camera’s own frames showed in early October 2026. On late afternoons the low sun sits at the right of the frame and can wash part of the view out with glare.

Down in the village, the Windham Path is a 2.4 kilometer (1.5 mile) loop that gives access to the banks of the Batavia Kill, a flat option for an evening walk.

For a bigger hike, Windham High Peak rises to 1,074 meters (3,524 feet) about 10 kilometers (6 miles) east of the resort.
