Stummerberg Webcam – Tannenalm Mountain Inn, Zillertal

The Stummerberg Webcam is the Tannenalm’s own camera, looking down on this family-run mountain inn from higher up the slope, at 1,040 meters (3,412 feet) on the eastern side of Austria’s Zillertal. The guesthouse with its red roof and wooden balconies stands on the left of the frame beside a long barn with skylights in its roof, and a farm road curves down the steep green pasture in front of them. Brown cattle often graze by the outbuildings. To the right, a stand of spruce and larch drops away to the flat floor of the Zillertal, where villages and fields spread out far below, and the opposite side of the valley climbs in a patchwork of meadows, forest and scattered farmhouses. In early October the larches along the treeline are already turning yellow.

About Stummerberg

Stummerberg is a mountain municipality in the middle Zillertal, in the Schwaz district of Tyrol. It spreads across the slopes of the Kitzbuhel Alps above the valley village of Stumm, where its municipal office is, and its neighbors include Hart im Zillertal, Aschau im Zillertal, Gerlos and Hopfgarten im Brixental. The municipality covers 56.74 square kilometers (21.9 square miles) but had just 876 residents on January 1, 2026. They live in three parts, Stummerberg, Gattererberg and Kleinstummerberg, which were joined into one municipality in 1849. About 40 percent of the land is forest and almost half is alpine pasture, the same mix of woods and grazing that fills the camera’s frame.

The Tannenalm, written Tannen-Alm on its facade, is an Alpengasthof, or mountain inn, at Stummerberg 27. It is a working farm as well as a guesthouse. The rooms have large balconies, and children can meet the animals in the stables and join guided tours of farm life.

The Zillertal branches off the Inn valley near Jenbach, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Innsbruck, and is drained by the Ziller River. Between Strass and Mayrhofen its floor rises only about 100 meters (330 feet) in 30 kilometers (19 miles), which is why the valley bottom in the picture looks so level. The Zillertal Railway has run along it between Jenbach and Mayrhofen since 1902.

Weather and Climate in Stummerberg

At the inn’s height, winters are properly cold. Ten years of reanalysis data for this spot (2015 to 2024) put the January average at -2.8 C (27 F), with afternoons around 2.5 C (37 F) and nights near -7.4 C (19 F), and the pasture in front of the inn can lie under snow. Spring comes late at this altitude: April averages 5.6 C (42 F), with afternoon highs around 11 C (52 F).

Summer is mild and also the wettest season. July and August afternoons average about 21.7 C (71 F) and nights about 11 C (52 F), while each month from May to August brings 176 to 202 millimeters (6.9 to 8.0 inches) of precipitation, roughly double a winter month’s 85 to 106 millimeters (3.3 to 4.2 inches). Autumn is drier. October averages 8.7 C (48 F) with afternoon highs around 14 C (58 F), and the larches on the right of the frame turn from green to gold before they drop their needles.

Things to Do Near Stummerberg

The classic way up is Trail No. 39 from the community hall in Stumm. Tyrol’s tourist board lists it at 9.0 kilometers (5.6 miles) and about three and a quarter hours, rated medium, with 495 meters (1,624 feet) of climbing. It climbs steeply through the forest along a Way of the Cross, passes the Marzengrund car park and finishes with a short stretch of road to the inn, topping out at 1,055 meters (3,461 feet). Many other trails start right at the guesthouse. The open slopes around the Tannenalm are also a popular meeting place for model aviators, and the inn’s website has 360-degree views of its flying slope and model aircraft workshop.

In winter, the nearest big ski area is Hochzillertal-Hochfugen, whose valley station stands in the center of Kaltenbach, the village that shares its railway station with Stumm. Together the two areas have about 90 kilometers (56 miles) of pistes and 36 lifts between 560 and 2,500 meters (1,837 and 8,202 feet), and guests in Stumm reach them by ski bus or on the Zillertal Railway. Farther up the valley lies the Zillertal Arena, the largest of the valley’s ski areas, and the railway ends at Mayrhofen, where the Zillertal splits into smaller side valleys, among them the Tux valley.
