About this webcam
The Berg im Drautal Webcam looks along the garden front of Hotel Berghof, a three-star hotel in the village of Berg im Drautal in Carinthia, southern Austria. Wooden balconies hung with flower boxes and red parasols fill the left of the frame above a tiled terrace, while a broad lawn runs out toward the Drautal golf course and the forested slopes of the Upper Drau Valley. On clear days the ridges stand sharp against the sky, and the shadows of the hotel and its trees swing across the grass as the afternoon goes on. The seasons change the picture as much as the hour does. Summer brings full flower boxes and open parasols, while in winter the lawn and the fairways beyond it can disappear under snow.
About Berg im Drautal
Berg im Drautal is a small municipality in the Spittal an der Drau district, roughly 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of Lienz and 37 kilometers (23 miles) west of Spittal an der Drau. The main village sits at 692 meters (2,270 feet). The municipality covers 54.27 square kilometers (20.95 square miles) and had 1,227 residents at the start of 2026, spread between Berg itself, Feistritz, Emberg, Oberberg, Frallach and a few smaller hamlets that reach right up to the Emberger Alm.
Records first name the village in 1267/68, as Perige, and the late Romanesque parish church of Mariae Geburt (the Nativity of Mary) is mentioned from 1267. A second church, dedicated to Saint Athanasius, appears in 1443 and was once a place of pilgrimage. The present name only became official on 1 July 1965. Today Berg is a designated Slow Food Village, and tourism carries the local economy, with 70,000 to 85,000 overnight stays a year, most of them between June and September.
Hotel Berghof, which runs the Berg im Drautal Webcam, stands directly beside the golf course, which lies on the Drau just south of the village. The hotel is one of the three founding hotels of the Golfclub Drautal/Berg. The mountains that close off the valley belong to two ranges: the Gailtal Alps to the south, where the Jauken reaches 2,276 meters (7,467 feet), and the Kreuzeck group to the north, which climbs to 2,784 meters (9,134 feet).
Weather and Climate in Berg im Drautal
Winters in the Upper Drau Valley are cold. Over the past two decades, January afternoons have averaged about 4 C (39 F), with nights dropping to around minus 5 C (23 F). Snow falls mostly between November and March, with December and February usually the snowiest months, so the lawn in front of the camera can turn white for long stretches of the winter. Spring arrives quickly at this height: April afternoons average about 13 C (55 F), and May is already close to 18 C (64 F).
July afternoons average about 24 C (75 F), with nights near 14 C (57 F), which lines up with the peak of the tourist season. The warm half of the year is also the wet half. Every month from May to November brings roughly 130 to 150 millimeters (5.1 to 5.9 inches) of rain, with August the wettest, while January is the driest month at under 70 millimeters (2.8 inches). Autumn often turns clear and settled, and October afternoons still reach about 15 C (59 F). That reliably clear autumn sky is the reason an international telescope meeting has gathered on the Emberger Alm above the village every year since 1996.
Things to Do Near Berg im Drautal
The Golfclub Drautal/Berg starts at the edge of the hotel grounds. Its nine holes run along the Drau, and several carry names that describe them: La Foresta and The Monster wind through woodland, Tiefer Graben is a par 3, and on Adlerhorst the tee is set into a rock wall. A golf school runs beginner and intensive courses during the season. Off the course, the Drau Cycle Path (Drauradweg) follows the river through the valley, and canoeing, canyoning and mountaineering are all on offer locally.
Above the village, the Emberger Alm sits at 1,800 meters (5,906 feet) on the southern edge of the Kreuzeck group, about 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) above the valley floor. That drop and the valley’s west to east line produce strong thermals, and thousands of paragliding and hang gliding pilots launch from the alm each year. A small observatory at the Alpenhof Sattlegger hosts the International Telescope Meeting there. For day trips farther out, the hotel points guests toward the Weissensee lake and the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain.
